Letter in Epstein files details unproven sex trafficking allegations against Trump

    Claim:

An image authentically shows part of a handwritten letter from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Epstein files releases alleging that U.S. President Donald Trump was involved in sex trafficking.

    Rating:

    Context

According to the letter, the alleged incident happened in June 1967, when Jeffrey Epstein was 14 and Donald Trump was 20 or 21, indicating that the claims aren’t credible.

This story includes explicit descriptions of alleged sex trafficking.

In August 2026, social media users circulated a screenshot allegedly from the Department of Justice’s release of more than 3 million files related to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The screenshot appeared to show an allegation that U.S. President Donald Trump was actively involved in sex trafficking.

The screenshot circulated on Facebook (screenshot), X and Threads. Snopes readers contacted us to ask whether the image really showed part of a document from the files the Department of Justice released.

Here’s a transcription of the handwritten text:

Donald Trump can stand in the drive way and have a clear view of me naked and on my knees on the mattress.

Donald Trump says you said she is pregnant, she doesn’t look pregnant. George says she is. My dad took her to Army Doctor and he estimates she is 2 1/2 months pregnant. Trumps asks is she on drugs, George said yes. Trump said, We don’t like for them to be pregnant because we lose money. A doctor might could cause her to miscarry or if the child is good looking like her we could sale the baby. You said she is religious the Saudi’s like the religious ones. We’ll figure it out. Yes we’ll take her.

The image above authentically shows part of a handwritten letter detailing allegations of sex trafficking against Trump and Epstein. The letter is available on the Department of Justice website. As such, we have rated this claim as true.

However, the full letter has numerous inconsistencies that cast doubt on the validity of the allegations.

It is also worth noting that some of the claims say the letter shows allegations of child sex trafficking or that the writer of the letter was 13 at the time of the incident. The letter does include an alleged conversation about possibly selling a baby, meaning there is an allegation of potential child sex trafficking. However, the letter states only that the writer was in high school, meaning it’s unclear whether the accuser was under 18 at the time.

The White House has repeatedly told news outlets, including Snopes, that Trump has “been totally exonerated on anything relating to Epstein.” We reached out to the Department of Justice to ask if it investigated the claims in the letter and will update this story if we hear back.

Here’s our breakdown of the letter’s contents.

    The letter’s allegations

The screenshot circulating online is on Page 5 of a 31-page letter (archived) in the Department of Justice’s Epstein library. The PDF is searchable under the file name “EFTA01682027.pdf.”

In the document, dated June 14, 2025, the letter’s writer claims on Page 1 that her “testimony places Donald J. Trump as a person involved in the sell of young women to the sex trafficking ring of Jeffrey Epstein and Saudi’s.” (While the Department of Justice did not redact her name, Snopes does not publish the names of people who say they have experienced sexual abuse unless they identify themselves to media first.)

According to the letter, the writer was allegedly attending high school in Nashville when her oldest brother decided to sell her to Epstein. She claims that she was taken to the house of Joseph McDevitt, a chief of police in Seaside Heights, New Jersey; the driveway described in the portion of the letter circulating online was allegedly his. The reference to “George” in her testimony is allegedly McDevitt’s son. (Both Joseph and George McDevitt have since died, according to a genealogy web page.)

According to the writer, the deal to sell her collapsed after her “toenail sliced open” one of the testicles of a different man present who attempted to sexually assault her (Page 5).

She claims that afterward she was locked in a bedroom without food, water or access to a bathroom. Allegedly, Trump said, “Feed her to the fishes. I don’t care what you do with her” (Page 6).

Her narrative is difficult to follow and, at times, illegible, but it also describes an escape from confinement, decades of alleged retaliation, COVID-19 conspiracies and other, unrelated religious experiences, including experiencing prophecies and seeing angels (see pages 13, 18 and 29 for examples.)

    Details don’t hold up

The most glaring inconsistency in the writer’s story is the timeline. On pages 2 and 3, the letter writer claims that the events detailed happened in 1967:

This is my testimony of the summer of 1967.

    […]

I got pregnant very quickly. We married April 8th 1967 and I was 2 1/2 months pregnant when we arrived first part of June 1967.

Trump was born in June 1946 and Epstein was born in January 1953; as such, in June 1967, Trump would have been 20 or 21, and Epstein would have been 14. Trump and Epstein reportedly didn’t meet until the 1980s.

The writer also claims on Page 2 that she “just completely recovered this memory,” meaning she recovered a memory from 1967 in 2025 — nearly 60 years after it allegedly occurred. (Research suggests that many recovered memories of trauma are false memories, although not all of them are.)

Some of the details in her story appear to reference real people and places. Joseph P. McDevitt, for example, was actually a chief of police with the Seaside Heights Police Department, although there’s no evidence he was ever charged or convicted of a crime.

With the information available, it’s impossible to know whether any of her claims of criminal conduct have any basis in truth. However, given the timeline discrepancies, it’s likely the letter writer’s claims against Trump and Epstein aren’t credible.
