When mistakes are identified, we are committed to correcting them promptly, transparently, and responsibly.
Reporting Errors
We encourage readers, sources, researchers, and organizations to notify us if they believe an error appears in our reporting.
Correction requests should include:

- A description of the alleged error
- Supporting evidence or documentation when available

Correction Review Process
All correction requests are reviewed by the editorial team.
We assess:
- The accuracy of the reported concern
- Available supporting evidence
- Relevant documentation and sources
- Potential impact on the story
Where necessary, reporters, editors, researchers, and legal advisors may participate in the review process.
Types of Corrections
Minor Corrections
Minor errors that do not affect the substance of a story may be corrected without a formal correction notice.
Examples include:
- Typographical errors
- Formatting issues
- Minor factual inaccuracies
- Spelling mistakes
Significant Corrections
Errors that affect the meaning, interpretation, or accuracy of a story will be corrected with a clearly visible correction note.
Examples include:
- Incorrect dates
- Misidentification of individuals or organizations
- Incorrect figures or statistics
- Mischaracterization of evidence
- Material reporting errors
Clarifications
In some cases, information may be accurate but insufficiently clear.
When appropriate, NCIJ may publish clarifications to provide additional context or explanation.
Retractions
In rare circumstances where a story contains serious inaccuracies that undermine its overall reliability, NCIJ may retract the article.
Retractions will be clearly disclosed and accompanied by an explanation whenever possible.
Transparency
We believe corrections should be visible and transparent.
Significant corrections will include:
- A description of the correction
- The date of correction
- Updated information when appropriate
We do not silently alter substantive reporting without acknowledging changes.
