Upwind Security today announced a $400 million Series C funding round at a $3.8 billion valuation. Coming just nine months after the company announced a $250 funding round at $1.5 billion valuation, the investment brings the total amount raised by the company to over $800 million.
Upwind offers a runtime-native cloud security platform that provides organizations with increased visibility into networks, APIs, and data flows, which the company says is used by hundreds of organizations, including Siemens, Roku, and Nubank.
Upwind explains that its platform “uses runtime intelligence to help security, development, and DevOps teams identify their most critical exposures, remediate risks proactively, and detect attacks in real time.”
Headquartered in San Francisco, California, Upwind was founded in 2022 by Amiram Shachar, who previously founded Spot.io, which was acquired by NetApp for $450 million.
The latest funding round was led by Bessemer Venture Partners, with participation from Canapi Ventures and existing investors including TCV, Greylock Partners, Salesforce Ventures.
The massive funding round comes just days after reports emerged that Upwind had attracted acquisition interest from several companies, including Datadog. According to The Information, Datadog had offered nearly $4 billion to acquire the cybersecurity security startup, while other potential buyers had also expressed interest. However, Israeli technology publication CTech questioned the report, citing information indicating that Datadog had not made the alleged offer.
