Swati KhandelwalAug 06, 2026Virtualization Security / Linux Zapscape, a new Linux kernel vulnerability, could allow an attacker with kernel privileges inside an L1 guest virtual machine (VM) to escape KVM isolation and execute code on the host. The risk applies when nested virtualization is exposed to untrusted guests. The flaw is tracked as CVE-2026-64561 and affects KVM/x86’s shadow memory management unit (MMU), which manages shadow page tables used for nested guest memory translation. Security researcher Hyunwoo Kim, who disclosed the bug, said the demonstrated exploit path can run commands on the host with kernel, or root, privileges. The upstream fix…
In brief SEC documents obtained by 404 Media show the agency subscribed to Airlines Reporting Corporation’s Travel Intelligence Program, which held over one billion ticket records. The data included names, credit card numbers, routes, and an alert system that flagged new bookings by people the agency was monitoring — likely without a warrant. ARC, co-owned by Delta, United, and American, sold the data until lawmaker pressure forced a shutdown in 2025. The Securities and Exchange Commission bought access to a worldwide airline ticketing database holding more than one billion records, according to SEC documents obtained by 404 Media through a…
mRNA flu shots have officially arrived. On August 5, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the first influenza vaccine that uses the same technology underpinning COVID-19 shots. The flu vaccine, called mFlusiva and produced by Moderna, will be available for people ages 50 and older at select drug stores ahead of the upcoming flu season, the Massachusetts-based company said. Influenza kills thousands of people in the United States each year and hospitalizes tens of thousands more. The FDA’s approval is based on a study of 40,000 individuals who got either a dose of mFlusiva or a conventional flu shot.…
by Paul Kiefer / Wisconsin Watch, Wisconsin Watch August 6, 2026 Click here to read highlights from the story Microsoft’s new 15-year electric service contract with We Energies includes outdated language limiting where power plants serving its Mount Pleasant data center could be located. The Public Service Commission rejected the geographic restriction, which would have limited Microsoft’s access to wind energy from neighboring states. We Energies says the commission’s order — not the outdated contract language — will govern Microsoft’s power purchases. Consumer advocates question why We Energies asked Microsoft to sign a contract that didn’t reflect regulators’ decision. Microsoft’s…
In 1415, a young European prince named Henry, who came from an obscure, foundling dynasty in what would later be known as Portugal, charged out ahead of the troops under his command during an invasion of the African mainland, at a little trading outpost called Ceuta. The prince, who would eventually achieve fame as Henry the Navigator, was less of a hero in battle than his reckless sally would suggest, but the Portuguese land grab soon succeeded. The gambit jolted Europe with the news of a success against the Muslims of the Marinid dynasty and announced a Portuguese dynasty, the…

President Trump on Thursday signed a proclamation that would create a minimum price for imports of polysilicon and impose a 15 percent tariff on products made with the material, in an effort to support domestic production of a key component in semiconductors and solar panels. The tariffs will go into effect in early December. By setting a minimum import price for polysilicon and products made with it, the administration will block any products priced below those levels from entering the U.S. market. That will allow U.S.-based manufacturers to sell their products at prices where they can be profitable. The administration said…
