A video authentically shares a recording of former U.S. President Bill Clinton delivering a speech criticizing President Donald Trump’s July 2026 address at Mount Rushmore.
Clinton published a genuine statement criticizing the country’s political direction on July 4, 2026. However, it did not mention Mount Rushmore or contain the remarks heard in the video that spread on social media.
In July 2026, an approximately 19-minute video circulated online purportedly featuring a recording of former U.S. President Bill Clinton responding to President Donald Trump’s address at Mount Rushmore on July 3.
For example, a Facebook user shared the alleged speech with the caption (archived), “Bill Clinton Warns Trump’s Mount Rushmore Speech Took a Dangerous Turn.”
The narration, over a still image of Clinton, began:
You know, there are certain moments in the life of a country where what’s said matters less than where it’s said and why. Last night, on the eve of America’s 250th birthday, President Trump stood beneath the granite faces of four presidents at Mount Rushmore and delivered a speech that, on its surface, was supposed to celebrate our founding. And parts of it did.
But if you listen carefully, really carefully, what you heard wasn’t just a celebration. It was something else entirely. And I want to walk through it with you tonight because I think what happened at that mountain deserves more than a headline. It deserves a conversation.
Now, let me start by giving credit where it’s due. The setting was extraordinary. Mount Rushmore is one of the most powerful symbols of American democracy on the planet.
The purported Clinton speech went on to criticize Trump’s characterization of communism, his call to eliminate the Senate filibuster and his statement that passing the SAVE America Act would prevent Republicans from losing an election for 100 years.
Versions of the video appeared on YouTube, Threads, LinkedIn and online blogs. One blog plost claimed Clinton “went on social media and recorded” the response. Snopes readers also contacted us to ask whether the speech was authentic.
In short, it was not, and we have rated this claim fake.
We first uploaded the still image used throughout the video into Google Lens to perform a reverse image search. Next, we used search engines such as DuckDuckGo, Google and Yahoo with phrases including “Bill Clinton response to Trump’s Mount Rushmore speech July 2026” and passages from the alleged speech.
If Clinton had delivered such a lengthy response, reputable news outlets or his official representatives likely would have documented it. We found no authentic recording, official transcript or credible news coverage showing Clinton delivering the remarks heard in the video.
The video did not authentically capture Clinton giving a speech about Trump’s Mount Rushmore address. It paired a still image of Clinton, whose source we could not verify, with artificially generated audio imitating his voice. Though Clinton released a genuine statement on July 4, it contained entirely different language.
In addition, the YouTube video originally carried an AI-content warning, and a voice detector classified the sampled audio as a likely deepfake.
Clinton issued a different statement
News news outlets did report on comments Clinton released during the July Fourth weekend. However, those reports concerned a written statement Clinton shared on X about the United States’ 250th anniversary — not a nearly 19-minute recorded response to Trump’s Mount Rushmore address.
Clinton released the statement on July 4 under the title “Statement from President Clinton on America at 250 and the State of the Country.” The Clinton Foundation also shared it through its official LinkedIn account and website.
The statement criticized the country’s current leadership without naming Trump. Clinton referred to masked immigration agents, what he called “an unconstitutional war,” threats to democratic institutions and the use of government power against political opponents. He wrote, “Today, we celebrate this milestone amid another period of deep division.”
However, the authentic statement did not mention Mount Rushmore, Trump’s July 3 speech, communism, the Senate filibuster, the SAVE America Act or Trump’s suggestion that Republicans could avoid losing an election for a century. It also contained none of the passages heard in the video’s narration.
Therefore, although Clinton genuinely issued a politically critical July Fourth statement, it was not the speech featured in the video circulating on social media.
Origin of the video
We traced the video to a YouTube channel named Romeo Robinson, which used the handle @RomeoRobinson1. Although the video was unavailable when we investigated the claim, a July 7 Wayback Machine capture preserved its YouTube page and identified the uploading channel.

The archived page displayed the timestamp “3 days ago,” which suggested the video was uploaded around July 4.
More importantly, the archived upload also carried YouTube’s “Made with AI” disclosure, meaning its “sounds or visuals were altered or fully generated.” The video’s description also stated:
DISCLAIMER: THIS IS AN INDEPENDENT, FAN-MADE CHANNEL NOT AFFILIATED WITH BILL CLINTON, HIS CAMPAIGN, OR ANY POLITICAL ORGANIZATION. THE VIDEOS ARE INSPIRED BY PUBLIC SPEECHES AND VERIFIED NEWS FOR EDUCATIONAL AND ANALYTICAL PURPOSES ONLY.
An earlier Wayback Machine capture of the channel showed that it had published numerous similarly formatted videos purporting to feature Clinton commenting on recent political developments. The uploads paired images of Clinton with sensational titles.

Several other clues suggested that AI was involved in producing the video’s image and narration and may also have assisted in writing its script.
First, a Google reverse image search for the still image displayed throughout the video produced no earlier versions or credible source for it:

We likewise found no evidence that the image came from a real photograph of Clinton recording the purported speech. Although the lack of search results did not prove the image was fabricated, it suggested the picture was likely AI-generated, particularly when considered alongside the video’s other signs of artificial creation.
We uploaded a sample of the recording to the Hiya Deepfake Voice Detector. It returned an authenticity score of 8 out of 100 and stated, “The sampled voice is likely a deepfake.”

Let us note here: These types of AI detection tools are fallible. Snopes cautions people against using them for definitive answers on media’s authenticity without supporting evidence.
The script itself also raised questions about how it was produced. Over approximately 19 minutes, it repeatedly used formulaic transitions such as “Let me tell you something,” “Here’s the honest truth,” “And let me tell you what worries me even more” and “I want to close with something.” Although repetition and polished rhetorical structure do not prove that a text was AI-generated, these patterns were consistent with an artificially constructed script and reinforced the other evidence that the recording was not authentic.
Script incorporated Trump’s real remarks
The fabricated response incorporated genuine details from Trump’s July 3 speech at Mount Rushmore, which likely helped make the supposed Clinton commentary appear credible.
During the address, Trump called communism “the greatest threat to our country,” comparing it with World War I, World War II, Pearl Harbor and the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. He also said, “You can be loyal to Karl Marx or you can be loyal to America. You can be a communist or you can be a patriot. You cannot be both.” Near the end of the speech, Trump called for eliminating the Senate filibuster and passing the SAVE America Act. He said that if Republicans did so, “we will not lose an election for a hundred years.”
The video therefore did not fabricate the underlying Trump quotations. Rather, the script incorporated Trump’s authentic remarks into a response falsely attributed to Clinton.
Taken together, the available evidence showed that the video used an AI-generated imitation of Clinton’s voice to deliver remarks he did not make. Although Clinton released a genuine July Fourth statement and the fabricated script incorporated authentic comments from Trump, the approximately 19-minute recording was not an authentic Clinton speech.
