ZDNET readers are skeptical of a foldable iPhone in 2026. Here’s what they think instead

Ahead of its September iPhone event, we asked ZDNET readers to predict Apple’s next moves for the upcoming iPhone 18, with each correct guess earning a chance to win a new Apple Watch.

We know a few things about the upcoming iPhone 18, but there’s still a lot unknown. What will the new colors be? Will Apple drop a new foldable iPhone to rival Samsung’s new flagship Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra? Is Siri finally good?

Also: Everything announced at Apple WWDC 2026 – including Siri, iOS 27 dev beta, and more

Well, our readers definitely have opinions… The results for Round 2 are below, but if you missed it — don’t worry, there will be one more round of questions to participate in for a chance to win. The last round of questions will go live on August 18th, 2026.

    Q. Will Apple release a foldable iPhone in 2026?

Our readers don’t think we’ll see a new foldable iPhone this year, despite rumors pointing to a new line of “Ultra” devices including AirPods, a touchscreen MacBook, or a new form factor for the iPhone 18.

Instead of the foldable, you’re more convinced Apple will release an “Ultra” MacBook laptop with a touchscreen — potentially an OLED, at that. Readers were split when it comes to a new smart home hub or smart glasses, both of which have had their fair share of rumors, and both of which could potentially make sense given the improved Siri that came to iOS earlier this summer.

Color predictions are pretty evenly spread, but you didn’t think Apple would do orange or yellow this year, which makes sense — the iPhone 17 launched in the “Cosmic Orange” colorway last year (and was a divisive color choice, anyway).

As mentioned, these are just your predictions — we’ll find out the answers to these questions in Apple’s big Fall iPhone event sometime in early September (we’re predicting September 8th, based on previous years’ events).

    Round 3: August 18, 2026

Thanks to everyone who participated! Each correct answer you submitted grants you one entry into the drawing to win the new Apple Watch. The more correct answers you have, the more chances you have to win.

Also: Why Apple’s iOS 26.6 is worth installing (it’s not just for the 91 security fixes)

The third and final round of the guessing game launches on August 18th and will focus on the live event itself: what products are announced, who’s hosting, and whether or not we finally get a foldable iPhone. Be sure to check back in to share your expertise on Apple’s upcoming product launches.
