Ukrainian TV channel building hit by Russian drone as five killed in Kyiv

A series of explosions across Ukraine’s capital overnight killed three people and injured another 25, the state emergencies service DSNS said.

Residential buildings were hit, including a five-storey house in the Solomianskyi district, while vehicles caught fire in the Podilskyi district.

People sought shelter inside a metro station in Kyiv during the overnight attack, something that is routine for residents protecting themselves during the ongoing war.

By Tuesday afternoon, the death toll had reached five people.

According to a BBC Verify analysis, Kyiv is suffering more daily air raid alerts than at any time since Russia’s full-scale invasion.

In Russia, buildings were struck in the city of Saratov during a Ukrainian drone attack, its regional governor Roman Busargin said early on Tuesday.

The talks with Trump’s top envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in Moscow and Kyiv ended without any major breakthroughs.

Zelensky said he expected the war to continue into the winter, following the envoys’ first visit to Ukraine since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022.

In Moscow, President Vladimir Putin’s senior adviser Yuriy Ushakov said the US envoys were informed about “the significant advances made by the Russian armed forces” on the battlefield and stressed that the Kremlin’s “set objectives would be achieved”.

Putin has so far showed no sign of backing down from his maximalist demands, which included more territorial concessions from Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Witkoff said that “substantive progress was made”, without giving any further details.

Zelensky told reporters they had agreed that officials from Ukraine, Europe and America would meet in the near future to continue discussions. He also called for a trilateral meeting with Russia and the US.
