TechnipFMC has delivered its first 7-in. Subsea 2.0 tree to Chevron in Australia, the first christmas tree (XT) delivered under the companies’ 20-year master service order.

The XT #1 system represents the first-article build of TechnipFMC’s 7-in. Subsea 2.0 platform and was delivered for Chevron Australia’s Gorgon Stage 3 (GS3) project.

GS3 is a backfill development connecting the offshore Geryon and Eurytion natural gas fields to the Gorgon gas processing facilities. As part of the original development plan for Gorgon, which has the capacity to produce 300 terajoules per day of gas for the Western Australian market and 15.6 million tons of LNG per year, Gorgon Stage 3 is the first in a series of planned subsea tie-backs.

“The first 7-in. Subsea 2.0 XT expands the application range of the Subsea 2.0 platform and demonstrates its readiness for broader deployment across projects. A first-article build is the initial production unit of a new configuration, used to validate design, manufacturing processes, and system integration before scaling production. This delivery shows the ability to advance standardized subsea solutions under complex execution conditions while maintaining focus on safety, quality, and predictability,” TechnipFMC said.

The platform was manufactured at the company’s facility in Nusajaya, Malaysia, and was delivered by a globally integrated team, with contributions from personnel across Asia-Pacific, Europe, and the Americas.

According to TechnipFMC, to meet design, manufacturing, and delivery timelines, early prototyping, cross-project knowledge integration, and close coordination across engineering, manufacturing, and project teams were implemented, allowing the validation of key interfaces ahead of schedule and supporting a controlled first-article build process.

The Chevron-operated Gorgon project is a joint venture between the Australian subsidiaries of Chevron (47.33%), ExxonMobil (25%), Shell (25%), Osaka Gas (1.25%), MidOcean (1%) and JERA (0.417%).

The final investment decision (FID) on Gorgon Stage 3 was announced in December 2025, followed by TechnipFMC and Subsea7 securing contracts.

The development entails the installation of three manifolds and a 35-kilometer production flowline among other associated infrastructure, with six wells expected to be drilled in the two fields about 100 kilometers northwest of Barrow Island in water depths of about 1,300 meters.
