Send us your questions for Wisconsin’s candidates

It’s election season, and Wisconsin Watch reporters are researching story ideas to help voters better understand their choices in November.

It’s a big election. Democrats are expected to do well because of a national mood that has turned against Republican President Donald Trump.

In Wisconsin that means Democrats may win control of the Senate and Assembly for the first time in 16 years. If they also win the governor’s office, they would be able to enact a legislative agenda, which they weren’t able to do under eight years of Gov. Tony Evers.

If Republicans hold on to the Assembly or governor’s office, but lose the Senate, expect another four years of gridlock. If they hang on to the Legislature and take back the governor’s office, they could restore the conservative experiment that began under Gov. Scott Walker.

We’re planning to ask the candidates about some of the biggest issues that could turn on the outcome of this election: Will Democrats repeal 2011 Act 10 and what would that mean for the state? Will Republicans encourage mining in the state as a way to lower income taxes? How will either party fix our crowded prison system — by adding more capacity or granting more clemency? What’s the deal with data centers?

With such high stakes, Wisconsin Watch wants to hear from you. What questions should we be asking the candidates for governor, attorney general, lieutenant governor, treasurer, secretary of state? What issues are important in your congressional or legislative districts? Send us your questions by clicking here.
