Italy’s engineering, drilling, and construction services company Saipem has won a roughly $350 million deal with Azule Energy, a joint venture between Italy’s Eni and the UK’s BP, for subsea work on an offshore development in Angola, adding another major deepwater award to the Italian contractor’s growing West African portfolio.
Saipem has secured a new offshore contract worth approximately $350 million with Azule Energy for the West Hub Tails project, part of the wider Agogo Integrated West Hub (IWH) development, located 180 kilometers off the coast of Angola at water depths up to 1,750 meters.
The Italian firm’s scope of work covers the engineering, fabrication, transportation and installation of subsea infrastructures, including around 62 kilometers of flowlines, risers and umbilicals, to be tied in to the Agogo floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) unit, with an expected duration of about two and a half years.
The company explains that fabrication activities will be carried out at its Ambriz yard in Angola, with the involvement of local companies and workforce. The European player will deploy its FDS and Normand Maximus construction vessels for the offshore campaign.
“This award further confirms Saipem’s long-standing position as a key partner in the execution of complex offshore projects in West Africa, as well as its commitment to supporting the growth of the energy industry in the countries where the company operates,” the Italian contractor emphasized.
This contract award to Saipem comes months after the National Agency for Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels (ANPG) and Azule Energy confirmed the Ndungu full field start-up in February 2026, as another significant milestone in the broader Agogo Integrated West Hub project.
The Agogo IWH project is operated by Azule Energy with a 36.84% stake alongside its two partners, Sonangol E&P (36.84%) and Sinopec International (26.32%).
The latest assignment expands Saipem’s already obtained scope of work across multiple geographies, including a $1.8 billion deal in the Middle East for offshore and subsea facilities.
