Posts claim Kim Jong Un demanded firing squad for Epstein associates. There’s no proof

    Claim:

In July 2026, North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un demanded all of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s associates be turned over to North Korea so they could be executed by firing squad.

    Rating:

On July 27, 2026, the Facebook page BreakingPoint 360 posted a claim that North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un had released a statement calling for all known associates of the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein to be turned over to North Korea. Supposedly, he said he planned to execute them by firing squad. The claim then spread to other sites on social media.

Readers searched Snopes for more information about Kim’s alleged demand.

We found no reliable evidence supporting the claim. No reputable publications had reported on the substance of the rumor, nor did any North Korean state media outlets. As such, the claim is false.

After searching Google, Yahoo and DuckDuckGo to see whether reliable publications in the West had reported on the news (they had not), we attempted to discern whether North Korean media had published the supposed statement. We felt it was plausible that such a statement would have been reported, even in a state with tight media censorship, because U.S. President Donald Trump has often been criticized over his ties to Epstein.

Accessing North Korean media is difficult, given the country’s frequent use of cyber-warfare and unreliable internet connections, so we used KCNAWatch — an open-source archive of North Korean media articles operated by the South Korea-based publication NK News — instead of attempting to access the primary sources directly.

Searching KCNAWatch’s database of articles for “Jeffrey Epstein” and “Epstein” returned no results. We also manually looked through articles published in the week before July 27, but similarly found nothing.

We did find that North Korea celebrates “V-Day” on July 27, marking the Korean War armistice. That would make it a symbolic day for Kim to make a public statement, but again, nothing substantial turned up.

We also checked nongovernmental organizations such as the National Committee on North Korea to see if they had repeated the rumor or published transcripts of Kim’s alleged statement in English, but there was no new information there, either.

Finally, we reviewed BreakingPoint 360’s Facebook account and contacted the page to learn more about how it had sourced the information. It sent us to an AI chatbot, and we did not receive a reply.

Some of the account’s posts contained accurate information, while others used exaggerated phrases or twisted wording in a way that didn’t accurately reflect reality. All in all, as this example shows, the page is not a trustworthy source of information.

For further reading, we previously investigated whether Israel bombed a North Korean embassy in Iran.
