Natalie Harp allegedly sent 2 emotional letters to Trump. Here’s what we know

    • The claim that Natalie Harp wrote intimate letters to U.S. President Donald Trump in which she said she was “unworthy” and he was her “Guardian” among other things, is still under investigation.
    • The rumor stems from an Aug. 20, 2026, Daily Beast report that published two complete letters obtained by Trump biographer Michael Wolff. White House spokesperson Davis Ingle called the claims a “smear” and referred to Harp as a “dedicated public servant.”
    • Wolff said the letters were discovered by anonymous members of Trump’s staff and were given to him as he reported on Trump’s second presidential campaign. Given that Wolff obtained the letters from anonymous sources, we are unable to independently confirm their veracity. Key details in the letters coincide with publicly available information about Trump’s trip to Scotland and Ireland in May 2023.
    • Snopes will update this report if additional information surfaces.

U.S. President Donald Trump’s close aide Natalie Harp was in the spotlight as rumors about the nature of their relationship spread in August 2026. A pair of images purportedly showing intimate and emotional letters she wrote to Trump in 2023 spread online.

Harp allegedly wrote in one letter that she was “unworthy” of Trump. In the other, she purportedly wrote “You are all that matters to me” and called Trump her “Guardian and Protector.”

Snopes readers sent us the following images of the purported letters and asked us to verify their authenticity.

The full text of both letters, obtained from Trump’s biographer Michael Wolff, was originally published by The Daily Beast. According to Wolff, the letters were written in 2023 and were discovered by members of Trump’s staff whom he did not name.

Given that Wolff obtained these letters from anonymous sources, we are unable to confirm or disprove their authenticity independently. Until more information comes to light, we will keep this claim unrated.

White House spokesperson Davis Ingle defended Harp in an emailed statement to Snopes that made no direct mention of the letters:

Natalie Harp is one of the most loyal and hardest-working aides on President Trump’s team. The Fake News’s continued attacks on President Trump and his Administration prove exactly why trust in media is at historic lows. The media should focus on reporting real news and stop trying to smear dedicated public servants.

Excerpts from the letters first appeared in Wolff’s 2025 book “All or Nothing,” in which he reported on Trump’s second presidential campaign. Other sections were subsequently published in The New York Times. The Daily Beast published the letters in full on Aug. 20, 2026.

Harp reportedly wrote them in May 2023, during or after Trump’s trips to Scotland and Ireland, where he went golfing.

One letter said: “I’ll never forget when you made that promise to me after losing my Dad, and I know how happy he is right now that I did get to go to Scotland and Ireland, as he always wanted for me.” The statement that she is “unworthy” followed.

Harp also allegedly apologized in the second letter, referring to their return trip:

I’m sorry. I thought I was the only one left behind last night, and had no idea Margo’s car was also pulled over, and sent back to the Airport. Since I was alone in the van outside Customs without my passport, I panicked, and should have just called Secret Service instead of you. I also am sorry if I was an embarrassment walking the course in Scotland.

Photographs from Getty Images show Harp was accompanying Trump on the Turnberry golf course in Scotland. The U.K. tabloid Mirror also posted photographs from May 2023 apparently showing Harp running after Trump’s golf cart on foot on the first day of his golfing trip to Scotland.

In the alleged letter, Harp also mentioned Margo Martin, Trump’s special assistant and communications adviser. Martin was part of the May 2023 trip and posted pictures on her Instagram account from the golf course showing Trump and Harp from a different angle.

Harp referred to herself as the “Human Printer” in one letter, a nickname reportedly given to her by other staffers because she routinely prints out favorable media coverage and gives it to the president.

For further reading, Snopes has covered several rumors about Trump and Harp’s relationship.
