Katie Miller, a former White House adviser who has called for Dr. Anthony Fauci to be imprisoned, received medical advice from him during her pregnancy in 2020.
While Fauci’s diary and Miller’s X posts both supported accounts that she received medical advice from Fauci during the COVID-19 pandemic, it was unclear to why she sought and took this advice as Miller, by her own account, found Fauci to be narcissistic and manipulative.
In July and August, a claim (archived) circulated online that Katie Miller, the former White House adviser and wife of senior White House adviser Stephen Miller, received medical advice from Anthony Fauci, the chief medical adviser to the U.S. president during the COVID-19 pandemic, during her pregnancy in 2020. The claim noted that Katie Miller later called for Fauci to be imprisoned.
The activist organization The Other 98% wrote on Facebook, “Anthony Fauci’s diary shows him calling Stephen Miller’s pregnant, COVID-positive wife a couple of times a day through the spring of 2020. The Millers now want him in prison.”
The post highlighted specific entries in Fauci’s diary, released in late July by Sen. Rand Paul, that mentioned providing medical advice to Miller. The post said about the Millers that:
Through all of it, nobody has disputed what the diary shows: in the scariest spring of their lives, the man they now call a criminal kept calling to make sure she was okay.
When she was afraid, he answered.
Now that she’s safe, she wants him in a cell.

Similar claims that Katie Miller had gotten medical advice from Fauci but later said he should be prosecuted also circulated on Instagram (archived), Threads (archived), Bluesky (archived) and Reddit (archived). Snopes readers contacted us asking about the claim.
According to Fauci’s diaries and Miller’s own X posts (archived, archived), she and Fauci were in regular communication during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic when she served as press secretary for then-Vice President Mike Pence. According to Fauci’s diary, these communications included both Fauci giving Miller medical advice and Miller asking for advice from Fauci.
Given that Fauci’s diary and Miller’s X posts both confirm that Fauci gave Miller medical advice during the COVID-19 pandemic, we rate this claim true.
It was also true that by 2026, Miller called for (archived) Fauci to be jailed.
According an X post (archived) by Miller on July 30, 2026, she regarded Fauci as a “narcissist who sought to put himself on as much media as possible” and who “manipulated those around him to best serve his outcome” in 2020. It was unclear why she took and sought his medical advice at the time if that was the case. Fauci, meanwhile, described Miller on March 25, 2020, as “tough, smart,but great” according to his diary (PDF Page 68).
We contacted Miller to ask why she received and sought Fauci’s medical advice in 2020 given her stated opinion of him. We also contacted Fauci to confirm the accuracy of the diary entries Paul released and for comment on Miller’s call for him to be jailed. We await replies to our queries.
Fauci called Miller ‘frequently’ during COVID-19 illness
The Washington, D.C.-based news website NOTUS reported on July 29, 2026, that Paul’s office had redacted parts of Fauci’s diaries that related to Miller. For this article, we used an earlier version of the diary archived on the Wayback Machine.
Our searches of the unredacted document found 60 instances of the word “Katie” in the 1,141-page document, though not all related to Katie Miller. We found at least 15 diary entries that mentioned Katie Miller, her family and/or Fauci giving advice or providing support to the Millers.
Fauci’s diary mentioned Miller only in her capacity as Pence’s press secretary until May 8, 2020, when Miller reportedly tested positive for COVID-19.
Fauci wrote (PDF Page 170, emphasis ours):
I spent much time on phone this evening advising Katie and Steve Miller as to what they should do. She is 10 weeks pregnant. I advised that Steve must move out of the house into a hotel; he still has to self-isolate for 14 days. If he stays in the house, whether or not he gets infected, he still must self-isolate for 14 days after Katies tests negative. His clock will start after he separates from Katie and so he should start the clock now.
The next day, on May 9, Fauci wrote (PDF Page 171):
I am calling Katie frequently to check on her couple time per day. She is very anxious about getting very ill since she is 10 weeks pregnant. Tonight she had an anxiety reaction. I calmed her over the phone. Her pulse Ox is fine and she is afebrile.
Fauci then wrote on May 18, 2020 (PDF Page 182), that Miller was “feeling better” and “will be back soon.” Reuters reported that Miller returned to work on May 26.
Miller X post claims Fauci caused ‘distress’
Miller wrote on X on July 30, 2026, that Fauci told her husband “to leave me while pregnant” and that COVID-19 could cause “lifelong complications to my baby,” which cased her distress. Though it was unclear which exact instances Miller referred to in her X posts, at least two entries from Fauci’s diary appeared to match one of her descriptions..
When Katie Miller first tested positive for COVID-19 in May 2020, Fauci wrote that he told Stephen Miller he must “move out of the house” to self-isolate (PDF Page 170).
Additionally, Fauci wrote that he advised the Millers to isolate apart after Stephen Miller was exposed to COVID-19 in October 2020. By Oct. 4 (PDF Page 381), Katie Miller was staying at a hotel to isolate from her husband, according to Fauci’s diary. Fauci wrote:
I spoke with Stephen yesterday and told him that he should stay away from Katie until he has multiple negative PCRs. Today was his 4th negative and so I told Katie that she can leave the hotel and go home to Stephen. Provided that they wear masks.
It was unclear whether the couple heeded Fauci’s advice.
Miller sought Fauci’s advice, called for imprisonment
Fauci’s diary also contained at least one instance of Miller seeking out Fauci’s advice.
On June 20, 2020, Fauci wrote in his diary that Miller called him asking for advice on whether she needed to wear a mask to a rally for President Donald Trump in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Fauci wrote (PDF Page 212):
I told her that she and Steven should wear masks since Tulsa is a hot bed and she needs to think of the fact that she is in 2nd trimester of pregnancy.
A photo taken by Reuters at the time showed Katie Miller at the rally in question holding, but not wearing, a mask.
Further diary entries appeared to suggest that Fauci and the Millers maintained friendly relations even as the first Trump administration came to an end. In December 2020, Fauci wrote (PDF Page 525) about receiving a thank-you call from the couple after sending a gift for the birth of their daughter. Toward the end of the month when their child was hospitalized, Fauci wrote (PDF Page 570) that he spoke with her doctors and was on the phone “frequently” with Katie and Stephen Miller. It was unclear whether the Millers had asked Fauci to do this.
However, writing on X on July 30, 2026, Katie Miller called Fauci a “narcissist” and called for him to be imprisoned. She wrote:
Every man who has a journal is a narcissist.
Dr. Fauci was neither my friend nor my doctor, but a work colleague who weaponized my pregnancy and child for his gain to aggrandize himself.
As they say, keep your friends close and your enemies closer.
I can say with certainty after witnessing his con up close this man should be in prison.

When asked by the journalist Sam Stein about whether she told Fauci about her COVID-19 fears in 2020 because she was “keeping tabs on him,” Miller replied that Fauci “caused panic to look like the hero.” When Stein repeated his question, Miller did not reply.
In sum, while Miller had received medical advice from Fauci with regard to her pregnancy and child during the early days of the pandemic, it was unclear why she sought or took this given that, by her account, she had always found Fauci to be narcissistic and manipulative.
