Is video of Trump speech attendee mocking the president real?

On July 22, 2026, U.S. President Donald Trump traveled to Wheeler High School in Marietta, Georgia, to speak about “Trump Accounts,” investment accounts parents can contribute to for their children. 

Within a day of that speech, people on social media began drawing attention to someone in the audience who appeared to imitating or even mocking Trump during his speech. For example, an Instagram post (archived) claimed, “A Donald Trump rally in Marietta, Georgia, took an unexpected turn when an audience member seated directly behind the president went viral for mimicking Trump’s trademark hand gestures, facial expressions and speaking style during his speech,” alongside a video apparently showing a teenager or young man mimicking Trump’s gestures and speaking. 

Users also shared the video widely on YouTube (archived), Facebook (archived) and X (archived). Snopes readers sent emails asking whether the footage was real.

The video was even uploaded by the White House to its own website (archived) and YouTube (archived). The young man spoofing Trump can be seen in all these posts. Therefore, we’ve rated the claim that this is authentic footage true.

While the exact time the person in the suit began imitating Trump isn’t certain due to the zoom of the camera, he can be seen doing hand gestures imitating Trump at 14:50 in the YouTube video.

For the next 10 to 15 minutes, he can be seen repeating this behavior off and on, sometimes with the people to his left joining in.

At about 16:17, while much of the young person is off camera, his hands can still be seen imitating the gestures Trump is making at that exact moment in the speech.

Again while mostly off-camera, he can be seen repeating Trump’s hand motions at 17:32. About 10 seconds later, the right-most person in the group is seen leaning over Trump’s shoulder and giving a thumbs-up while looking at the camera, suggesting the group may have known they were in-frame and being recorded.

The speech was billed by the White House as being focused on Trump Accounts, even though Trump ended up talking about many other things unrelated to the accounts. The viral imitator had a Trump Accounts sign he sometimes held up.
