Don’t fall for phony recording of Dolly Parton’s ‘final wish’

    Claim:

A video features an authentic audio recording of the late country music legend Dolly Parton revealing her “final wish.”

    Rating:

Following singer Dolly Parton’s death on Aug. 25, 2026, people on social media shared and commented on videos allegedly featuring a special audio recording from the country music legend revealing her “final wish.”

For example Instagram users continued to comment on a video (archived) posted nearly two weeks earlier on the Spotlight Hollywood (@spotlighthollywood) account. The Aug. 12 video purportedly features a mix of Parton clips with an audio recording, kind of like a voice-over recording under footage.

The post’s captions claimed Parton revealed three wishes she hoped to fulfill before her death, though on the audio track she is purportedly heard talking only about “my final wish,” that she wished to be buried next to her late husband, Carl Dean.

In the video, Parton supposedly says:

I may really not have the chance to see you all again. When you see this video, please remember that this is my final wish before I leave this world.

Lately, my health has been getting worse, and I can only stay awake for short periods of time. So, while I still have the strength, I want to take this moment to say goodbye to everyone.

Compared to the younger generation of stars, I may not be very famous but I’m already deeply grateful because so many of you, my fans, have been with me all along the way. You’ve witnessed my growth and my brightest moments and to me you’ve long been like family.

However, as I’ve grown older, my health problems have become more serious. Maybe it’s because I didn’t take those mild symptoms seriously at the beginning and now I can only stay in the intensive care unit, enduring painful treatments. Please don’t be sad for me. After all, everyone has to go through this stage of life. It’s only a matter of time.

But if I do leave this world, I hope to be buried next to my husband. At least that way, I won’t feel lonely when I go. That is my only wish. And lastly, I hope all of you take good care of your health and cherish the happiness in every single day. I will always love you.

In sum, while TMZ did report Parton’s family’s plans to bury her next to Dean, a closer investigation revealed that although the in-question video’s visuals were genuine, the supposed audio recording of Parton’s voice was fake. Its creator used an artificial-intelligence tool to mimic Parton’s vocals. We found no evidence that Parton ever made the statement heard in the video in any setting.

A Google search for some of the text from the transcript located more social media posts but no news media outlets reporting about the alleged audio recording. Had Parton truly made such a recording, news outlets worldwide would have reported it. Further searches of Bing, DuckDuckGo and Yahoo displayed zero results for the same search phrases.

Some links that appeared in Google’s search results revealed Facebook users sharing the audio, including one video featuring the TikTok watermark for user @hsdpkuabyxt, who posted (archived) the fake soundtrack as far back as December 2025 — a time when there was no indication that Parton was in intensive care, as the audio said. We messaged that user to ask if the audio was newly created or reposted from elsewhere.

The fake Parton audio contained a hard-to-describe, AI-sounding quality of inauthenticity, not to mention that the AI tool used to create the vocals failed to provide a natural-sounding pause after the words “After all, everyone has to go through this stage of life,” instead continuing immediately to, “It’s only a matter of time.

After Parton’s death, some articles featured mentions of her final wishes or requests, for example that of resting in a beautiful bed of plush cotton after a life of wearing heavy rhinestones, as well as keeping her Dollywood theme park open in celebration rather than closed in mourning and silence. However, those matters had nothing to do with Parton making a special audio recording.

For further reading, we previously reported about the three times Parton declined receiving a very special medal, as well as about the controversy in which TikTok users twisted Parton’s past charitable work to criticize other celebrities.
