Does video show Trump saying he has a husband?

    Claim:

A video within a news broadcast authentically shows U.S. President Donald Trump telling a crowd of his supporters that he has a husband.

    Rating:

    Context

Though the news broadcast is fake, the clip within it showing Trump speaking is real, meaning it is not the product of an artificial intelligence tool. Though Trump did say the words that can be heard in that section of the footage, he was quoting someone else. He was not saying that he, himself, has a husband. The clip featuring the president has been cropped for satirical purposes to omit this crucial context.

In late October, a video spread purportedly featuring a news broadcast showing U.S. President Donald Trump telling his supporters that he has a husband.

Social media users shared the footage on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and X, where one user said (archived), “Trump says he sat down with his husband, they started writing, but ran out of paper!”

At one point in the alleged 15-second news clip, Trump seemingly says, “We sat down and I sat down with my husband and I started writing and I went on and on and in a little I realized I ran out of paper.”

Trump says he sat down with his husband, they started writing, but ran out of paper! I ask this often, but I’ll ask it again, what is wrong with him? https://t.co/FAHGyIq1xd

The story spread as the president attended campaign rallies in support of Republican candidates across the country ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

Some users seemed to interpret the rumor as true. Snopes readers also contacted us to check if Trump said he has a husband.

To investigate the claim’s legitimacy, we first used search engines such as DuckDuckGo, Google and Yahoo. If Trump had authentically said he has a husband, journalists at reputable news outlets, such as The Associated Press or Reuters, would have likely reported on it, and those search inquiries would have uncovered such evidence. That was not the case.

The origin of the claim is a set of social media pages called The BSN Network. Its Facebook bio notes that it posts, “News reimagined through satire,” and, “Comedy built from ‘real’ headlines.”

A manager of the network posted a video to Facebook and Instagram on Oct. 28 (archived, archived) seemingly showing Trump saying he has a husband as part of a news broadcast. From two seconds onward, the footage features text that says, “Commentary | Comedy | Cultural Absurdity.”

The news broadcast itself is not authentic. It includes an anchor who appears to have been generated using an artificial intelligence tool. It is not clear whether the character is based on a real person.

The BSN Network’s video does contain authentic footage of Trump, though. That genuine clip originates from a rally in Vandalia, Ohio, on Oct. 3, during which Trump did say, “We sat down and I sat down with my husband and I started writing and I went on and on and in a little I realized I ran out of paper.”

However, that section has been taken out of context for comedic purposes in The BSN Network’s posts. An original recording of Trump’s speech shows he was quoting a woman who he said was defending his presidential record. From the 1:16:23 mark, he says (emphasis in bold ours):

You know, a woman was on the other day and she was defending me against false charges. Just false crap, you know, political stuff. And she said, “You know, last night I sat down in my kitchen and I started writing out all the things that President Trump has accomplished during the second,” this is our second term, probably you could say third term. We just don’t, we just don’t want the results of the second.

But, “We sat down and sat down with my husband, and I started writing, and I would on and on. And in a little while I realized I ran out of paper. I didn’t have that much paper. We went all over the house looking for paper.” So many things, it’s true.

Snopes contacted The BSN Network for its response to the video being stripped of its “comedy” label in other users’ posts and some people mistaking the satirical story as real news. We will update this article if we receive a response.

For further reading, Snopes has debunked similar pieces of media before. For example, we alerted readers to a satirical claim that Trump asked why “we are wasting time counting ballots” when everyone “already knows the Republicans won the 2026 midterms.”

Since satire is subjective, we use “originated as satire” or “labeled satire” ratings based on creators’ description of their work. It’s your call whether you agree.
