Did White House post ‘Magic Deportation Bus’ graphic?

    Claim:

In late August 2026, the White House posted a “Magic Deportation Bus” graphic to social media, referencing the 1990s educational cartoon “The Magic School Bus.”

    Rating:

In August 2026, social media users shared (archived) an apparent screenshot of an Instagram post by the White House the depicted “The Magic Deportation Bus” in a spoof of the 1990s educational cartoon “The Magic School Bus.”

Users highlighted the image purportedly uploaded by the White House on Instagram (archived), TikTok (archived), Facebook (archived) and X (archived). Snopes readers searched the site wondering whether the White House really posted the image.

The claim that the White House posted an image to social media of “The Magic Deportation Bus” is true.

Many of the social media posts said the White House shared the image Instagram (archived). However, the White House also posted it to other social media sites including Facebook (archived) and X (archived).

The White House uploaded the image with the caption, “Please let this be a normal field trip…” — a phrase commonly said by the “Magic School Bus” character Arnold, a fearful student who generally dislikes the magic field trips Ms. Frizzle takes the class on using the show’s eponymous bus.

The image posted by the White House appears to combine the Netflix thumbnail for the series with the series’ original logo, with the addition five men in handcuffs and ballcaps looking down in the back of the bus.

The White House image uses the same background as the Netflix thumbnail. It also uses Netflix’s version of the Magic School Bus flying as a rocket with Ms. Frizzle and Liz the lizard at the front, and the words “Blast Off!” written at the front of the bus. The dark blue circle and stars around the bus appear to be an approximation of the same in the series’ original logo. The red text outside of the circle is also likely meant to mimic the original series’ logo, although it’s in the wrong font and is incorrectly placed outside of the circle (the original logo placed the text inside the circle).

The inaccurate mishmash of logos is one hint that the image is likely AI-generated, rather than something made by a human editing one logo or the other. Additionally, zooming in on Liz in the White House image shows that the area around Liz’s left arm is jumbled and blurry. AI generation tools sometimes struggle with fine, complicated details in images.

A White House spokesperson did not answer a question from Snopes about how the image was created.

U.S. President Donald Trump and his administration have frequently posted AI-generated images and video to social media that are related to his policies and sometimes reference pop culture. In May 2026, Snopes collected nine examples we’ve previously fact-checked.
