Chart of the Week: Amazon’s lobbying operation dwarfs the other Emmy winners’ K Street spending • OpenSecrets

When the Emmy Awards were handed out Monday night, “Widow’s Bay” took home a record 14 trophies, accounting for half of Apple TV’s 28 wins. That was the most for any company, beating out Warner Bros. Discovery’s 21 awards.

But we were curious to see how all the winning corporations stack up when it comes to trying to influence policy in Washington, D.C., so we totaled up their lobbying spending for the first half of this year.

We fully admit there isn’t any correlation between K Street spending and Emmy wins, but it’s still fun to examine the numbers.

Apple Inc. has spent $5.2 million as of June 30. While Apple dominated the Emmys, that dollar figure is only good enough for a third place in the lobbying rankings. Amazon, which won a total of 10 Emmy trophies via Prive Video and MGM+, has spent $9.6 million on lobbying so far. Of course, video studios and streaming are just a small piece of Amazon’s massive business, which is dominated by its e-commerce and cloud computing services.

Warner Bros. Discovery is the only winner to have spent less than $2 million on lobbying as of June 30.
