Baker Hughes has been awarded a contract by Italy’s energy giant Eni for the supply of subsea production systems and services for Cyprus’s first-ever commercial gas development.
Under the contract described as significant, Baker Hughes reported that it had been put in charge of the subsea production systems scope for the deepwater Cronos project, covering deepwater subsea trees, wellheads, connectors, manifolds, topside controls and associated services.
The development will leverage a fast-track approach based on regional integration and the use of existing infrastructure.
Baker Hughes noted that it would use its deepwater expertise and standardized, configurable subsea production solutions to help reduce complexity, de-risk delivery and shorten the path to first gas, in support of Eni’s accelerated project schedule.
Work on the project is already underway, with initial equipment deliveries expected in the first half of 2027.
“Baker Hughes has worked alongside Eni on deepwater projects around the world for many years, and Cronos is another important step in that relationship,” said Baker Hughes Executive Vice President of Oilfield Services & Equipment Amerino Gatti. “By pairing our expertise in complex deepwater environments with configurable subsea production solutions, we are supporting Eni’s efforts to safely bring its reserves into production with their fast track approach.”
Baker Hughes’ award was booked in the third quarter of 2026.
The Cronos gas discovery is located in Block 6 offshore Cyprus. With resources estimated at more than 3 tcf of gas initially in place, the project is expected to reach a production plateau of up to 500 million standard cubic feet per day. The final investment decision (FID) was reached on July 28, and start-up is expected in H1 2028.
