But when it comes to the weather, fortunes will be mixed. In much of the UK, clear skies should give many a good view of the eclipse. However, across some parts of north Wales, northern England and especially Scotland and Northern Ireland, areas of cloud could move in between 18:00 and 19:00.Across some parts of western Scotland and in towards the north and west of Northern Ireland, cloud could bring outbreaks of rain. For those lucky enough to be in Spain, there will be clear skies for people to see a total eclipse in Bilbao, Valencia and Palma, Mallorca, while both…

As the huge societal ramifications of artificial intelligence have become clear, some of the tech industry’s most senior figures have taken to writing thinkpieces on what comes next. The latest to do so is Mark Zuckerberg, who this week published 6,500 words making the case for a laissez-faire approach to AI development. Worrying too much about regulation, Meta’s CEO unsurprisingly opines, could lead to the United States falling behind in the race to own the future.Mr Zuckerberg’s plea for maximum autonomy is, of course, self-serving. Much of his essay – which airily envisions “invention superpowers” for every entrepreneur and “an…

Many of the recent threats against him have…

The threat to Air Force One was seen as so dire that they sneaked President Trump off the jet in a catering container to keep him safe. But the same dire threat did not stop them from then sending Air Force One into the skies anyway with a planeful of senior officials, government employees, reporters and military personnel serving as decoys, some unwittingly. If the Iranians were trying to shoot down the presidential plane last month, as U.S. officials concluded at the time, then the subterfuge in Ankara, Turkey, that protected the president also may have made targets of dozens of…

In addition to the S52A designation, one of the submitted documents shows an oval diagram — likely the ear cup — marked with the name Sonos Ace Ultra, although that name isn’t listed anywhere else. It follows the naming scheme Sonos has used in the past with its Arc and Arc Ultra soundbars. The documents also list color options we’ll likely see, which extend beyond the white and black of the Ace. The five colors named are “greige,” shadow black, agave, blush, and sand. There’s also indication of testing for local networks over 2.4 and 5GHz bands. This could be just…

Written by Lucy Lim, Planetary Scientist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center Earth planning date: Friday, July 31, 2026 As mentioned in the previous blog, Curiosity has been exploring a large-scale feature in Gale’s sedimentary record suspected to be an “erosional supersurface.” The “supersurface” represents a period in time when a net depositional environment changed to a net erosional one before returning to a depositional regime, thus producing a discontinuity in the rock record. The erosion can involve wind, water, or both. Sometimes there are clues about these environmental changes in the layers below and above the supersurface. So far…
