Abstract Raises $25 Million to Expand Composable Security Operations Platform

Composable security operations provider Abstract Security announced on Thursday that it raised $25 million in a new funding round to accelerate development of its streaming-first security operations platform.

The round brings Abstract’s total funding to nearly $50 million, and the company said its valuation has tripled since its prior round, though it did not disclose specific dollar figures.

The new capital will be used to widen the platform’s in-stream detection coverage, extend capabilities across the security operations workflow, and grow the company’s go-to-market team.

Cheyenne Ventures and AVP co-led the round, with additional investment from Olive Hill Ventures, Crosslink Capital, and Rally Ventures.

The Abstract platform is built around what the company calls composable security operations, an architectural approach that separates the source of security data from its destination.

The idea is to let organizations mix and match components of their security stack (including collection, detection, retention, and AI-enabled operations) rather than being tied to a single vendor’s monolithic SIEM architecture.

On the detection side, the platform is designed to analyze data while it is still in motion, rather than only after it has been indexed and written to storage.

As data exits the pipeline, Abstract tiers and routes it to different storage destinations and formats depending on how it will be used, converting it into schemas such as OCSF, ECS, and CIM as needed by downstream tools, an approach aimed at cutting storage costs.

Abstract was founded in 2023 by a team with backgrounds at ArcSight, Bank of America, Palo Alto Networks, and Mandiant.

“For more than two decades, SIEM has been the foundation of security operations. AI-Gen Security Operations is what’s next,” said Colby DeRodeff, CEO and co-founder of Abstract. “It gives organizations control over their data, runs detections while data is still in motion, and embeds AI into every stage of detection, triage, investigation, and response.”

“We built Abstract around that vision from day one because AI isn’t a feature bolted onto the SOC. It’s woven into every layer of security operations. This investment gives us the resources to continue building a generational cybersecurity company,” DeRodeff added.
