Masirah Oil has announced that work on the first well in the infill campaign at the offshore Yumna field has commenced. Arabian Drilling signed a contract with Masirah Oil and Northern Offshore in August 2026 to drill two firm wells, in addition to two optional wells, in Oman.
Mike Hopkinson, General Manager of Masirah Oil, commented: “We expect production from the new well to start in November 2026.”
The Yumna field is situated in Block 50, which is an approximately 17,000 square-kilometer offshore concession located in the Gulf of Masirah, east of Oman. The first oil was achieved in February 2020.
Rex’s subsidiary, MOL, an indirect 87.5% subsidiary of Jasmine Energy Limited (JEL), is the sole owner of the Block 50 concession. The Singaporean player holds an 87.5% interest in Masirah following restructuring.

The approval of the field development plan and declaration of commerciality (DOC) for the Yumna field were obtained in July 2020. Yumna-2 came online in January 2021, while Yumna-3 began production in February 2021.
The following year, the floating storage tanker was changed out to allow for the tanker to be in the field for several years without the need for dry-docking. The mobile offshore production unit (MOPU) was also changed out with upgraded facilities the same year.
The 4Q 2022 drilling campaign, which consisted of a workover of the Yumna-3 well to replace the electrical submersible pump and drilling of the Yumna-4 well that was completed for production, was finished in early 2023.
MOL completed its multi-well program in 2024 at Block 50, including the drilling of the Yumna-5 well, which started production in April 2024, and workovers of three existing production wells, one more than originally planned.
Masirah Oil emphasizes that the production rate is being regularly optimized to maximize recovery from the field, establish viable long-term production, and substantially increase the oil reserves at the block.
