US President Donald Trump’s business partner Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner discussed “substantive plans” for next steps to end the Ukraine war during their meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, the White House said, before they headed to Kyiv on Sunday. Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said the three-hour talks had been “highly useful” but gave no indication that a breakthrough had been reached. Follow our liveblog for all the latest updates.

Witkoff and Kushner head to Kyiv after three-hour talks with Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner at the Kremlin on Saturday for renewed talks on ending Russia’s war in Ukraine.

The meeting, which lasted more than three hours behind closed doors, ended without announcements of any breakthroughs. Speaking to journalists afterward, Putin’s foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov described them as constructive, frank and useful, but didn’t talk about specific outcomes.

Witkoff and Kushner are expected in Kyiv on Sunday.

Both Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky have agreed to pause strikes on each other’s capitals while the talks took place.
