Does Nancy Mace have arm tattoos?

In August 2026, an image circulated online that social media users claimed showed South Carolina Rep. Nancy Mace with tattoos on her arms. 

One X user who shared (archived) the image wrote, “Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) reveals new tattoos in recent appearance.”

Similar images of Mace wearing a sleeveless blue top that revealed multiple tattoos on both arms also circulated on Facebook (archived), Threads (archived), Instagram (archived), Reddit (archived) and Bluesky (archived). Snopes readers contacted us about the image, asking whether it was real.

The images of Mace with tattoos on her arms appeared to be screenshots from episodes of her podcast, “Get MACED,” on YouTube. An Aug. 13, 2026, episode titled “The CALL is Coming From INSIDE the House: Nancy Mace EXPOSES Radical Election Results” included two clips of Mace wearing the sleeveless blue top in the introduction (at 0:09 and 0:25) and one of her wearing a black denim top that also exposed her arms and tattoos (at 0:30).

The day before, a separate podcast episode was the first in the series to feature an intro sequence that included several pictures and videos of Mace that showed her tattoos. The Aug. 12 episode did not include the clip of Mace wearing the sleeveless blue top.

Given that Mace published the videos showing her arm tattoos on her own YouTube channel that social media users later shared screenshots from, we find claims that those screenshots authentically showed the South Carolina legislator true.

We contacted representatives for Mace to ask what her arm tattoos showed, when she got them and why and await a reply.

Mace’s arm tattoos appeared consistent across the images and videos she posted on YouTube on Aug. 12 and 13 and also appeared in Mace’s Instagram account profile picture and in a video (archived) on the platform posted Aug. 13. We found no reason to suspect Mace edited her videos or images to add arm tattoos that she did not have in real life.

From the available videos and photos, it appeared Mace’s arm tattoos included various bird, flower and religious motifs as well as the word “Justice.”

Mace had tattoos before August 2026 reveal

In a February 2026 profile of Mace, Politico’s Michael Kruse reported that the three-term representative got her first nine tattoos “in the midst of losing or firing every one of her staffers” in 2023 or 2024.

These did not appear to be the same tattoos Mace revealed in her August 2026 podcast episodes. 

Images from Mace’s podcast intro in August 2026 showed her arm tattoos extended almost down to her elbows on the inside and outside of both arms. Photos of Mace from the reputable picture agency Getty Images in November 2024 and March 2025 showed her bare arms without tattoos, suggesting Mace got the arm tattoos after these dates, though it was unclear exactly when.

At the time of Kruse’s profile, Mace reportedly described the tattoos she got in 2023 or 2024 like something akin to a coping mechanism. Kruse wrote that she said she got her tattoos “not just to feel ‘the pain that I need to feel’ but to ‘reclaim’ her body.”

Since then, Mace lost South Carolina’s Republican primary for governor on June 9, 2026. She announced (archived) the next day that she would not seek a fourth term as a representative for South Carolina and would instead return to work in the private sector.
