Egyptian marine and offshore services provider Petroleum Marine Services (PMS) has brought to an end a major development project in Egypt’s Gulf of Suez, including the installation of an 18-kilometer gas pipeline and upgrades to the asset’s offshore platform, strengthening infrastructure at an offshore field operated by Gemsa Petroleum Company (Gempetco).

Petroleum Marine Services has completed the Gempetco-operated Zaafarana offshore field development project in the Gulf of Suez, executing the project under an engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) contract. The company’s scope of work covered a comprehensive package of offshore and onshore works aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and upgrading the field’s production facilities.

The main part of the project included the installation and laying of a new 4-inch pipeline with a total length of 18 kilometers, comprising 15 kilometers offshore and 3 kilometers onshore, connecting the national natural gas grid to the offshore Warda platform.

The development also entailed the expansion of the offshore platform’s topside, in addition to the supply and installation of three modern natural gas-powered power generation units, replacing diesel-powered units.

This upgrade provides the required power for operations while contributing to the optimization of operating costs. The firm claims the project reflects its ability to leverage its technical capabilities in the execution of specialized offshore construction projects.

PMS 11 Barge, which is Petroleum Marine Services’ owned offshore unit, participated in the installation and laying of the offshore pipeline toward the Warda platform, at water depths reaching up to 56 meters.

In addition, the PMS 17 offshore unit was involved in carrying out platform-related works, while PMS MAYO provided diving and offshore support services throughout the project, demonstrating the integration of the firm’s fleet units and its diverse technical specialties.

The Egyptian player underlined: “The successful completion of the Zaafarana offshore field development project demonstrates PMS’s integrated capabilities in executing projects under the EPCI model and in leveraging its offshore fleet and technical expertise to deliver specialized offshore and onshore works.

“This further strengthens PMS’s position as a trusted strategic partner in the development of oil and gas fields and offshore infrastructure.”

Earlier this year, PMS signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with ABL to collaborate on rig moving services and marine assurance and risk.

This enables the European firm’s local operations in Egypt to be called upon on a call-off basis to provide rig moving and operations technical support.

The company can also offer its wide range of marine assurance and risk services, including rig inspections, DP assurance, and critical systems consulting.
