Bermuda-incorporated offshore drilling contractor Valaris has confirmed the completion of its assignment with the UK-headquartered energy giant BP off the coast of Trinidad before the expected end date.

The 2001-built Valaris 249 jack-up rig has finished a two-well workover and completion campaign for BP offshore Trinidad nearly 17 days ahead of plan, according to the rig owner.

The rig secured a 100-day contract with the oil major last year offshore Trinidad. The assignment was scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2026 in direct continuation of the jack-up’s previous program with another operator.

Edward Cozier, Rig Manager, commented: “I am extremely proud of the Valaris 249 team’s performance throughout the Angelin campaign. This success was made possible through rigorous planning, clear communication, and close coordination among all parties involved.”

The Valaris 249 jack-up rig is of LT Super Gorilla design and can accommodate 120 people. The rig’s maximum drilling depth is 35,000 feet.

This unit is expected to spend 60 days out of service for planned maintenance in 3Q 2026. Afterward, the jack-up is slated to start its job with Shell in October 2026.

With the contracted revenue backlog of around $66 million based on an estimated duration of 365 days, the deal also has three priced options with an estimated duration of 50 days each.
