Trump bought Boeing stock on same day Navy gave company $880M contract. Here’s proof

    Claim:

U.S. President Donald Trump bought up to $500,000 in Boeing stock the same day the U.S. Navy awarded the aerospace company with an $880 million contract.

    Rating:

    Context

Trump bought between $250,000 and $500,000 in Boeing stock, according to his financial disclosures.

In summer 2026, a rumor circulated online that U.S. President Donald Trump bought up to $500,000 in Boeing stock the same day the U.S. Navy awarded an $880 million contract to the aerospace company.

The claim spread on X, Facebook and Threads.

Trump’s June 2026 financial disclosure indicates he bought between $250,001 and $500,000 of Boeing stock on June 18, 2026. That same day, the Department of Defense announced an $880 million contract with Boeing.

Thus, we have rated this claim as true.

Historical data for Boeing’s stock price indicates that the company’s stock actually dropped in price in the days after June 18.

The White House has long insisted that there are no conflicts of interest with the president’s stock holdings. Davis Ingle, a White House spokesperson, told Snopes the following in an emailed statement:

President Trump’s stock and bond portfolio is independently managed by third-party financial institutions. All holdings are maintained in discretionary accounts and invested through computer-based model portfolios that automatically replicate recognized indexes, such as the Schwab 1000. Neither President Trump nor any member of his family has any ability to direct, influence, or provide input regarding how the portfolio is invested or when investments are bought or sold. All investment decisions are made entirely by independent managers.

Some of the online posts say Trump bought “$500,000 of Boeing stock.” However, the financial disclosure forms don’t specify the exact worth of Trump’s stock purchases; we know only that it was somewhere between $250,001 and $500,000.

The U.S. government routinely awards Boeing billions of dollars in contracts. Trump’s financial disclosures indicate that unlike previous presidents, he has invested millions in Boeing and other companies that the government has major contractual relationships with, which ethics experts have criticized due to conflict-of-interest concerns.

The Office of Government Ethics provides a searchable database of financial disclosures for public officials.

A search for “Trump” using that database returned four disclosures published before June. A disclosure added July 1, 2026, titled “278 Transaction” — referring to the office’s name for a financial disclosure report — includes the Boeing stock purchase, dated June 18, 2026 (Page 8, No. 206). (Presumably, “BOEING PANY” is a typo and should say “BOEING COMPANY.”)

The Department of Defense also shares a list of contracts announced by date on its “Contracts” webpage. The page for June 18, 2026, describes the Boeing contract with the Navy (emphasis ours):

The Boeing Co., St. Louis, Missouri, is awarded an $880,000,000 firm-fixed-price, cost-plus-fixed-fee, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract that provides for the procurement, modernization, and sustainment of P-8A Poseidon aircrew and maintenance training systems, including the development, integration, testing, delivery, and installation of new training devices and upgrades to existing trainers, as well as associated hardware, software, spares, and support services, in support of Navy fleet readiness and evolving aircraft configurations, mission systems, and training requirements.

The P-8A Poseidon is a maritime patrol aircraft.

The Securities Exchange Act of 1934 prohibits insider trading, or buying and selling stocks or other securities on nonpublic information. In practice, however, prosecutors must prove intent.

For more on financial transactions in the Trump administration, we previously looked into a claim that a Trump insider bet $51 million on oil prices dropping before the United States announced a ceasefire with Iran.
