Switzerland-based offshore drilling contractor Transocean has secured an estimated 170-day assignment for its ten-year-old ultra-deepwater drillship off the coast of Equatorial Guinea, adding approximately $80 million to the offshore driller’s backlog.

Transocean has been awarded a two-well contract by an undisclosed operator for the Deepwater Conqueror drillship in Equatorial Guinea.

This estimated 170-day campaign is expected to begin in 2027 in direct continuation of the rig’s current contract in the U.S. Gulf.

The latest assignment will contribute approximately $80 million in backlog, excluding additional services and compensation for mobilization and demobilization.

The 2016-built Deepwater Conqueror DSME 12000 ultra-deepwater drillship can accommodate 240 people.

With a maximum drilling depth of 40,000 feet (12,192 meters), the rig is capable of working in water depths of 12,000 feet (3,658 meters).

Based on Transocean’s fleet status report from last month, the drillship recently got a two-well contract extension with an unnamed operator in the U.S. Gulf for work until January 2027.

The company’s total backlog was approximately $6.7 billion as of August 5, 2026. One of the rig owner’s semi-submersible units recently began work for Amplitude Energy.

This drilling assignment off the coast of Victoria is targeting an estimated 48.8 billion cubic feet (bcf) of prospective gas.
