SpeakON Ships a MagSafe AI Voice Button With Its Own Microphone

Voice input on phones has been solved for years. What has not been solved is the output. Speak into most dictation tools and you get back exactly what you said, fillers and false starts included, in a note you then have to clean up and move somewhere else. SpeakON attacks that gap with hardware: a 25 g magnetic button that snaps to the back of an iPhone, carries its own microphone, and writes finished text straight into whatever app is already open.

The Positioning: a Communicator, not a Dictation App

SpeakON calls the category an AI Communicator, and takes its framing from the Communicator in Star Trek: you should not need to be at a terminal to stay connected. The target user is a founder, manager, consultant or field professional who is not short on ideas but is short on the time to stop, unlock a phone, switch apps and type.

    The Hardware

The SpeakON device measures 58 x 58 x 6 mm and weighs 25 g. A 220 mAh cell is rated for 10 or more hours of continuous use and more than 2 weeks of standby, charging in under 1.5 hours over USB-C. It carries 128 MB of onboard storage, a stated capture range of roughly 60 cm, and supports up to 5 minutes of continuous input per press. The box includes a USB-C cable and a magnetic ring for iPhones without MagSafe.

The architectural decision that separates it from an app is the microphone. Audio is captured by the button, not the iPhone system mic. Three things follow from that. The phone microphone stays free, so the device does not fight CarPlay, a call or FaceTime for the resource. The app never needs continuous background mic access, which is the permission most voice tools ask for and most users dislike granting. And because the button has its own battery and storage, it keeps working when the phone is locked or offline, buffering on-device and syncing when a connection returns.

    How the Text Actually Lands

SpeakON installs as a system-wide iOS keyboard extension. That is the mechanism that lets output appear inside Messages, Mail, Slack, Notion or any field that accepts keyboard input, with no app switching and no clipboard round trip. Press, speak, and the processed text appears directly in the active text field, ready for review or editing before you send it. The app requires iOS 16.0 or above; magnetic attachment requires iPhone 12 or newer.

What the Software does to Your Speech

The current feature set is a text-shaping layer rather than a verbatim transcription one. Speech is treated as raw material:

    • Smart Polish strips fillers, restarts and redundant phrasing, so the output reads as written rather than dictated.
    • Smart List detects sequence intent and returns structured bullets or to-dos instead of a run-on paragraph.
    • Style detects the destination app and adapts register, so the same spoken sentence lands casual in Messages and professional in Mail.
    • Translation delivers text in 12 languages directly into the active field, with no third-party app in the loop.
    • Dictionary persists names, jargon and preferred spellings across sessions, which is the fix for proper nouns that every voice tool mangles.
    • Voice Edits revises existing output by speaking rather than typing.
    • Notes stores captures as titled, editable, searchable entries, which is where offline captures land.

All of it is available now, with no subscription required.

    Privacy

SpeakON states that voice data is encrypted, never sold and not used to train AI models, with user control over cloud sync. The company reports SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA compliance, and GDPR compliance.

    Availability and Pricing

The device sells for $129 one time in the United States, with Pro Lifetime included and no recurring fee. Colorways are Pearl, Black, Navy Blue, Amber and Sage. Shipping covers the 48 contiguous states plus Washington, D.C., with a 30-day return window and a 12-month warranty. The companion app is a free download and works without the hardware, which is the cheapest way to evaluate the text-shaping layer before buying the button.

Looking ahead, SpeakON Agent, which extends the same press from producing text to preparing reviewable Notes, Tasks and user-confirmed Actions, becomes available in October, 2026.

    Key Takeaways

    • A 25 g MagSafe button with its own mic and battery, writing into any iPhone text field.
    • The dedicated mic leaves the iPhone system microphone free and avoids background mic permissions.
    • Works locked and offline, buffering on-device and syncing later.
    • Output is shaped, not verbatim: Smart Polish, Smart List, Style, Translation, Dictionary, Voice Edits, Notes.
    • $129 one time with Pro Lifetime included, US only. SpeakON Agent follows on October 20, 2026.
