Petrobras strikes another oil-bearing zone in Equatorial Margin frontier

Petrobras has found another oil-bearing interval in the Morpho well, also known as 1-BRSA-1405-APS, which constitutes a new discovery in block FZA-M-59, located in ultra-deep waters off the coast of the state of Amapá, at a water depth of 2,886 meters.

This comes weeks after the firm identified the presence of hydrocarbons in this exploratory well within the Amazon River mouth sedimentary basin on the Brazilian Equatorial Margin with the Foresea ODN II (NS-42) drillship.

The Brazilian giant elaborates that the continued drilling of the well, aimed at evaluating deeper exploratory intervals, led to this new discovery, identified through electrical logs, indications in rock samples, and fluid samples obtained during the operations.

“The new discovery expands knowledge about the exploratory potential of the area and will provide additional information for assessing the petroleum systems and resource potential of the Foz do Amazonas Sedimentary Basin,” outlined the South American firm.

According to Petrobras, analyses are ongoing, and the information collected will subsequently be characterized through laboratory analyses and integrated with the dataset acquired during drilling.

Regarding the discovery announced in August, the analyses already carried out confirm the good quality of the oil found. The firm will complete the well drilling activities, followed by the evaluation of the identified formations.

The company claims that its operations in block FZA-M-59 are aligned with its long-term strategy, which aims to replenish oil and gas reserves by exploring new frontiers, thereby contributing to meeting the country’s energy demand.
