If you’re in the market for a new, inexpensive smartphone or a backup to your main device, I have a great deal for you. Motorola’s 2024 Moto G Play LTE is currently on sale at Best Buy for $100. That is $50 off its original $150 price tag, and I think it’s one of the best values for a phone that you’ll find at the moment.

Even though Motorola has since released the 2026 Moto G Play, the 2024 model has aged quite well. A big part of that is the hardware it runs on. This device houses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 with 4GB of RAM, providing enough performance for web browsing, social media sites, video streaming, and other lightweight activities. Keep in mind that this is not a high-end machine, as it is strictly budget-friendly. Its 6.5-inch HD+ display is bright and vibrant, running at 90Hz for smooth animations. Couple that with Dolby Atmos speakers, and you have a setup that doubles as a mini movie theater.

Review: Motorola Moto G Play LTE

Arguably, the biggest strength of the 2024 Moto G Play is its battery. Thanks to the energy-efficiency Snapdragon chipset and large 5,000mAh battery, this smartphone can last a long time on a single charge. ZDNET Contributing Writer Matthew Miller tested the device when it first came out. He found himself only charging the Moto G Play once every few days during normal use.

The main downside to the phone is its lack of 5G support. It is limited to 4G LTE for its cellular connectivity. This isn’t bad necessarily. 4G LTE will still provide reliable coverage at decent speeds. However, it’s not as good as 5G. 5G is better across every metric. It’s faster and more reliable, as 4G LTE is more susceptible to latency.

    How I rated this deal

According to ZDNET’s rating system, I rate this deal 4/5. Paying just $100 for a 2024 smartphone shouldn’t be scoffed at. This is a highly dependable mobile device with an outstanding battery life and solid hardware, retailing for less than a pair of AirPods. As Miller recommended in this review, the Moto G Play is a great backup phone and a good first mobile for teenagers.
