Texas-headquartered engineered pipe services provider Perma-Pipe International has established a subsidiary in Jordan, a move that comes as part of the company’s strategic expansion and long-term commitment to the region.
The establishment of Perma-Pipe Jordan is said to strengthen the company’s local presence and lay the foundation for developing advanced pipe manufacturing and coating capabilities to serve infrastructure, energy, water, and pipeline projects across the country and the wider Middle East region.
According to the U.S. firm, the strategic step reflects its confidence in Jordan’s potential as a regional industrial hub and commitment to local investment, employment, skills development, and building lasting partnerships.
“As we continue to expand our capabilities and geographic reach, Jordan will play an important role in our ambition to deliver innovative, high-quality piping solutions and create sustainable long-term value for our customers and partners. Perma-Pipe Jordan is an important step forward as we continue to scale Perma-Pipe and expand our presence across the region,” Perma-Pipe said on social media.
Perma-Pipe and Welspun Corp in September signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the developers of Jordan’s National Water Carrier Project and Jordan’s Government to advance the development of pipe manufacturing and advanced coating facilities in the country, intending to establish a joint venture (JV) to support the development and operation of the facilities.
As part of the deal, Perma-Pipe and Welspun want to establish an integrated pipe manufacturing and coating platform in Jordan capable of serving major water, oil & gas, energy, and infrastructure projects locally and across surrounding regional markets. The partnership combines Welspun’s large-diameter steel pipe manufacturing capabilities and Perma-Pipe’s expertise in anti-corrosion coating systems, engineered piping solutions and project execution.
Perma-Pipe, Welspun, and the project developers are engaged in the technical, commercial, financing, and regulatory requirements associated with the project, including facility design, manufacturing capacity, coating technologies, market requirements and applicable approvals.
In the future, the hub could also support infrastructure development and reconstruction requirements in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Gaza, as well as potential future opportunities associated with the development and rerouting of regional oil & gas infrastructure toward the Port of Aqaba, the U.S. firm reported last month.
“Our proposed investment in Jordan is consistent with Perma-Pipe’s strategy of expanding its global manufacturing and coating footprint in strategically important markets where long-term infrastructure investment is expected to create attractive growth opportunities,” said Saleh Sagr, President and Chief Executive Officer of Perma-Pipe, in the announcement from September.
Vipul Mathur, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Welspun Corp Limited, noted: “This JV with Perma-Pipe aligns with investments we are making in onshore and offshore oil and gas projects, water infrastructure development, reconstruction opportunities across the Middle East, and emerging hydrogen and carbon capture utilization and storage initiatives, that are expected to support sustained pipeline demand. The combination of our pipe manufacturing expertise and Perma-Pipe’s innovative, advanced coating and engineered solutions capabilities can create a differentiated offering as we seek to build stronger customer relationships.”
