- In July 2026, social media users alleged two videos showed a U.S. Secret Service agent smelling a stench emanating from President Donald Trump. In one camp, users promoted the long-standing, unproven rumor that Trump secretly wears diapers. Other users claimed the president
experienced flatulence. The clips originated from live broadcasts of the late Sen. Lindsey Graham’s funeral service in Washington, D.C. - Snopes’ investigation concluded both videos are genuine in that they do not display any signs of artificial intelligence or other digital-editing fakery. Research presented later in this article indicates the man sitting behind Trump and a second man sitting behind Vice President JD Vance — seated to Trump’s right — appear to work for the Secret Service. We did not yet locate data identifying the name of the individual behind the president, nor did we definitively confirm his employment with the agency.
- No credible evidence confirmed or debunked the rumor that the apparent Secret Service agent sensed a posterior stench from Trump, nor does any definitive proof exist to confirm the rumor the president wears diapers.
- We emailed the Secret Service and the White House to ask about the rumor, as well as to inquire if the man sitting behind Trump works for the Secret Service. We will update this article if we receive further information.
- Graham, a long-time South Carolina politician, died on July 11. Preliminary findings reportedly indicated he likely experienced an aortic tear, a medical emergency reducing blood flow to vital organs that can rapidly kill.
Following U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham’s Washington funeral service on July 28, 2026, people shared various rumors about President Donald Trump’s attendance. Alongside two specific videos collectively receiving millions of views, social media users promoted the long-standing, unproven rumor that Trump secretly wears diapers. According to some posts, the two clips — featuring different moments during the service — show a Secret Service agent sitting directly behind Trump reacting to smelling the president’s filled diaper or flatulence.
Regarding the first moment, on July 28, an X user posted (archived) a 13-second video with the caption: “Even at Lindsey Graham’s funeral, Donald Trump s***s his pants. The poor secret service agent behind him looks like he is going to die.” The chyron in the footage identified the source as the MS NOW TV show, “The Moment with Katy Tur.”
The clip shows a man sitting behind Trump inside Washington National Cathedral wearing a dark suit, white shirt, blue tie and lapel pin. Roughly halfway through the video, the man displays a disgusted-looking and sniffing facial expression.
On July 29, another X user’s post (archived) featured the same footage, albeit zoomed in and only six seconds long, with the caption, “The moment you realize that the diaper overflowed…”
In the second video, recorded at a different moment during the funeral service, the same man once again displays a similar, disgusted-looking facial expression. For example, on July 29, an Instagram user posted (archived) the clip alleging Trump farted, leaving the man behind him “fighting for his life.” The text caption reads, “Trump almost killed a man at Lindsey Grahams funeral…”
Both videos appeared elsewhere on Bluesky (archived), Facebook (archived), Instagram (archived), Threads (archived) and X (archived).
In sum, both videos are genuine in that they do not display signs of artificial intelligence or other digital-editing fakery. Research presented later in this article indicates the man sitting behind Trump and a second man sitting behind Vice President JD Vance — seated to the right of Trump — appear to work for the Secret Service. As of this writing, it was not possible to identify the individual behind the president by name, nor to definitively confirm his employment with the agency.
No credible evidence confirmed or debunked the claim that the apparent Secret Service agent sensed a posterior stench from Trump, nor does definitive proof exist to confirm the rumor that Trump secretly wears diapers.
Snopes emailed the Secret Service and the White House to ask about the rumor, as well as to inquire if the man sitting behind Trump works for the Secret Service. We will update this article if we receive further information.

Researching the rumor
Research showed the two men sitting behind Trump and Vance appear to work as Secret Service agents. The 15:08 mark in a Fox News YouTube video shows both men wearing lapel pins displaying a star shape possibly matching the Secret Service logo.
The 28:23 mark sees the two men not singing during the leading of a church hymn. At 2:17:40, a faintly-visible wire — potentially an earpiece — appears on the very left side of the frame, coming out of the left ear of the man who was sitting behind Trump, extending from his white collar. That same man enters the room shortly before Trump arrives, then later exits with the president.
The apparent Secret Service agent at the center of the diaper and flatulence rumor previously appeared at UFC 327 in April, closely following the president and wearing a lapel pin. A photo hosted by reputable image repository Getty Images, displayed below, confirms the man’s presence at the event, as does a very brief glimpse of him at the 0:30 mark in a UFC YouTube video.

As for the two videos users shared, the first clip (archived) — displaying the chyron for MS NOW, the cable network formerly known as MSNBC — originated during news anchor Katy Tur’s July 28 broadcast. The Internet Archive’s TV News Archive source provided this clip from 2:53 p.m. EDT.
The second video (archived) aligned with the 1:41:56 mark in the Fox News video. According to the 1:39:17 mark in a C-SPAN video (which matches with the audio of the Fox News footage), that second moment occurred at around 3:37 p.m. EDT.
The same apparent Secret Service agent made similar faces at other moments in the Fox News video, for example at the 1:43:01 and 2:03:15 marks.
