    Claim:

The YouTube channel of the Miami Heat posted a link to a July 27, 2026, news conference announcing the signing of basketball superstar LeBron James.

    Rating:

    Context

While the link was soon made private on YouTube and delisted from Google search, it was still findable in Bing and DuckDuckGo search results. We have reached out to the Heat to ask if this meant James was returning to play for the team.

As speculation boiled over where basketball superstar LeBron James would play in the 2026-27 season, a rumor spread that the YouTube channel of the Miami Heat accidentally posted a link to a July 27 news conference announcing James signed with the Florida team. James previously played for the Heat from 2010 to 2014.

The claim spread across social media, including on Reddit and Instagram, with one July 22 Instagram post saying, “The Miami Heat YouTube channel may have accidentally leaked LeBron’s press conference after they posted and deleted a video titled ‘LeBron James Introductory Press Conference'” (archived):

Snopes readers also reached out seeking to confirm the veracity of the rumor.

Several reputable news outlets relayed the story, including Reuters, the Miami Herald and French sports newspaper L’Équipe

The claim was true. While the link was made private on the Miami Heat YouTube channel, it was still listed in Bing and DuckDuckGo search results.

We have reached out to the Heat to ask whether this meant James truly was returning to play for the team and will update this story should we receive a response. We have also reached out to James’ representatives to inquire further.

A search on Google and YouTube turned up no such video. However, a search on Bing revealed the video was once listed (archived):

The link, titled “LeBron James Introductory Press Conference | July 27, 2026,” appeared to have been posted on July 21 on the YouTube channel of the Miami Heat. Clicking through indicated the video still existed but was made private on YouTube.

The same search on DuckDuckGo’s video tab revealed it was also listed there, and that link went to the same private page on YouTube (archived):

It was still unclear as of this writing where James would choose to play in the 2026-27 season.

Snopes has examined several rumors about James, including the false claim that he once called White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt “KKK Barbie.”
