Three Bored Ape sales at steep losses accompanied a month-long contraction in the leveraged Ethereum account that Lookonchain publicly tracks as Machi Big Brother’s. By Aug. 14, official venue data showed the ETH long had been cut by more than half, yet the market remained close to the account’s liquidation line.At 3:51:43 p.m. UTC, Hyperliquid’s public Info API showed the address holding a 2,500 ETH long with a displayed 25x leverage setting and a liquidation price of $1,859.15, and 14 seconds later the venue’s ETH midpoint was $1,881.65. For decades, scientists generally assumed that fossilization destroyed the original organic molecules once present in bones, teeth, and other tissues. Under that view, proteins and other biological materials were not expected to survive for tens of millions of years. New research led by the University of Liverpool now provides strong evidence that some Mesozoic fossils, including dinosaur bones and teeth, can retain traces of those original organic materials. Using advanced analytical methods, researchers detected remnants of collagen in the hip bone of an Edmontosaurus, a duck billed dinosaur. The finding adds important new evidence to a scientific debate that has…

In an unprecedented participatory ethnobotany approach, Hemerson Dantas dos Santos Pataxó HãHãHãi, a Brazilian Indigenous ethnobotanist, documented alongside his people their traditional medicinal practices: cataloging 175 medicinal plants, many of which had their use reaffirmed in scientific literature.Mongabay visited Hemerson and spoke with several Indigenous elders who survived violent land conflicts about their medicinal knowledge and their efforts to protect it in the Caramuru/Paraguassu Indigenous Territory, a land illegally occupied by cattle farmers for decades in Brazil’s Bahia state.Samples of plants collected by Hemerson are being kept at an internationally registered herbarium, and he’s finalizing a book in the…

On Aug. 17, China will mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Jiang Zemin, the former Chinese Communist Party (CCP) general secretary who died in 2022 at the age of 96. And now, Jiang’s partner in governance—Zhu Rongji—is gone as well, having died on Aug. 12 at the age of 97. The timing is only a coincidence, but it is being perceived as the definitive end to the era of breakneck reform…

When Edward Warchocki speaks with you, he sounds like a regular guy. “Not super intelligent, but very emotional, very easy to make friends with,” says Bartosz Idzik, the person who created him. But when he doesn’t talk, it’s harder to forget what Warchocki really is: a 4-foot-tall humanoid robot that’s wandering the city streets of Poland.Six months ago, Idzik and his friend Radosław Grzelaczyk had the idea of buying a humanoid robot from China. They named it “Edward Warchocki” after Grzelaczyk’s dog Eddie and the Polish word for growling, “warczeć,” but also because it sounds like a passable name for…

A large study has found that women who used hormone therapy later in life had a lower risk of developing dementia. The findings were published August 12, 2026, in Neurology, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology. Researchers emphasized that the results show an association and do not demonstrate that hormone therapy can prevent dementia. “While these findings help us better understand the relationship between hormone therapy use and various markers of dementia, more research needs to be done before we can make recommendations to women about their use of these therapies in relation to their brain health,”…

Companies can, in theory, appear to cut the carbon footprint of their supply chains in half simply by changing how they calculate emissions, according to a new paper. Researchers found that differences in accepted accounting methods can change how companies crunch their climate numbers and make it difficult to distinguish real emissions cuts from differences in calculations. “It is actually possible … in the current framework that a company can either look like a climate pioneer or a climate laggard just depending on which numbers they pick,” lead author Ramana Gudipudi, a guest lecturer at the European School of…

In Alaska’s tossup Senate race, Democrat Mary Peltola has put out a new ad misleadingly accusing Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan of casting “the deciding vote” to keep the Epstein files “hidden.” While Sullivan voted against considering an amendment to an otherwise unrelated bill that would have released the files earlier, he, like the rest of the Senate, supported a bill to make the records public.  The Peltola ad also seeks to tie Sullivan to the late convicted sex offender through donations from “Epstein associates.” The Peltola campaign points to donations from two people to Sullivan’s campaign who were either listed…
