Netherlands-headquartered Subsea Cable Assets (SCA) has won its first contract with Saipem for cable transportation and transpooling services in the Caspian region, valued at approximately $20 million.
Under the contract secured with Saipem Contracting Netherlands BV, SCA will provide engineering, specific equipment fabrication, installation and operation, demobilization and reinstatement to support an offshore energy project in the Caspian region, described as major.
The scope includes the delivery of five cable transport carousels, each with a 1,100 ton capacity and associated cable handling equipment. The cable spooling equipment will be mobilized on a cable transport vessel for cable load-out at JDR Cable Systems in the UK.
The loaded cable carousels will then be transported to Southeastern Europe for onward mobilization using self-propelled modular transporters (SPMTs) onto smaller transport barges and to the Caspian region, SCA explained.
The company has started the manufacture of cable carousels and related equipment at its facility in Dubai, UAE, with shipment to Europe planned by the end of the year.

Last October, Saipem secured three new contracts in the Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian Sea, for a gas project operated by BP. The scope includes the transportation and installation (T&I) of a new 19,000-ton compression platform, as well as the engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) of circa 26 kilometers of offshore pipelines to connect the new compression platform to the existing facilities, and all major permanent subsea works.
Offshore activities are expected to commence in the third quarter of this year, with completion targeted for 2029.
