TechnipFMC picks up multimillion-dollar subsea scope for Petronas’ deepwater project

FMC Wellhead Equipment, a subsidiary of UK-headquartered energy technology provider TechnipFMC, has been tasked with an integrated engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (iEPCI) assignment for the development of a long-delayed deepwater project off the coast of Sabah, Malaysia.

The iEPCI contract award, valued by TechnipFMC at between $75 million and $250 million, comes after Petronas Carigali, a subsidiary of Malaysia’s Petronas, approved the Limbayong project’s final investment decision (FID) earlier this year; thus, it marks a fresh step toward bringing the greenfield oil and gas development into production.

The European energy technology provider highlights that the deepwater development will benefit from both its Subsea 2.0 configure-to-order (CTO) platform and iEPCI execution of the entire subsea scope, reducing project cycle time on the fast-track development.

Jonathan Landes, President of Subsea at TechnipFMC, commented: “This award builds on a continued relationship with Petronas. Through our integrated approach and Subsea 2.0 CTO platform, we can provide a unique solution focused on improving project economics, accelerating delivery and enhancing project execution for Malaysia’s offshore energy sector.”

The Limbayong greenfield deepwater oil and non-associated gas development is located about 120 kilometers offshore Sabah, in water depths of roughly 900–1,200 meters.

TechnipFMC recently secured multiple deals and provided updates on its work, including a delivery of its first 7-in. Subsea 2.0 tree to Chevron in Australia.
