China-based provider of clean energy services Wison New Energies (WNE) has joined forces with the UK-headquartered energy giant Shell to bring the European firm’s liquefaction technology to the wider liquefied natural gas (LNG) market for the first time, strengthening Wison’s floating LNG (FLNG) offering and aiming to accelerate deployment of next-generation FLNG projects.

Wison New Energies has signed a collaboration agreement to integrate Shell’s dual mixed refrigerant (DMR) liquefaction technology into the Chinese firm’s FLNG offerings, reflecting a shared ambition to accelerate the deployment of next-generation FLNG solutions.

Xuan Chi (Damien) Nguyen, Chief Technology Officer of Wison New Energies, commented: “This collaboration with Shell significantly strengthens our FLNG offering. By integrating Shell’s DMR technology, we can provide our clients with a wider range of high‑performance solutions tailored to their project needs.”

The Asian company will incorporate the European player’s pre‑engineered, DMR‑based liquefaction technology solutions, which were previously deployed only at the UK firm’s equity projects, into its FLNG portfolio, making the technology available to the wider FLNG market for the first time.

The collaboration brings together Wison’s integrated FLNG delivery model, enabled by its engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning (EPCIC) and operations and maintenance (O&M) capabilities, and advanced fabrication yards, with Shell’s LNG process expertise; thus, creating a complementary value proposition for project developers.

Shell Catalysts & Technologies will support the Chinese company throughout the integration of the DMR liquefaction technology during the preliminary front-end engineering design (pre-FEED), FEED, and engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) phases of FLNG projects.

The European player will also provide process performance guarantees on its dual mixed refrigerant technology to help support reliable project delivery and operational performance.

Wison emphasized: “Shell’s DMR technology is an established solution for floating and onshore LNG facilities. It combines efficiency, compactness and flexibility to deliver tailored carbon intensity outcomes with the ability to scale across different project sizes.

“This makes it especially well-suited for the evolving FLNG market, where cost competitiveness and space efficiency are critical.”
