A consortium – consisting of AF Offshore Decom, part of AF Gruppen, and Heerema Marine Contractors (HMC) – has won a new assignment for offshore platform decommissioning activities on the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS), representing its third contract from the same North Sea operator in the past year.

AF Offshore Decom and Heerema Marine Contractors’ consortium has been awarded a contract by an undisclosed North Sea operator for the engineering, preparation, removal and disposal (EPRD) of one of its platforms in the UK sector of the North Sea.

The facility features a steel structure, with the topsides weighing approximately 23,000 tonnes and the supporting structure around 12,000 tonnes. The deal also includes an option for the removal of selected conductors and subsea structures.

“The award builds on nearly three decades of decommissioning experience and reflects the confidence placed in our people, engineering expertise and ability to safely and responsibly execute complex offshore projects,” emphasized Heerema.

The consortium partners emphasize that this marks the third contract awarded to the consortium by this client in the last year. The offshore platform surveys will begin immediately.

This will be followed by detailed engineering and offshore preparatory works to be performed within the next eight years. The platform will be removed in a multi-year removal campaign by HMC’s vessels.

Lars Myhre Hjelmeset, EVP Offshore at AF Gruppen, commented: “Securing a third contract from this particular client in the last year is a significant achievement and a strong endorsement of our consortium’s capability.

“This award reflects our established track record of delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality EPRD solutions on some of the North Sea’s most complex installations.”

Heerema will use its heavy-lift fleet for the offshore removal, after which the structures will be transported to AF Environmental Base Vats for dismantling, recycling and disposal.

Hjelmeset added: “We look forward to continuing to support our client’s portfolio, both offshore and onshore, leveraging our core strengths and working alongside HMC in close partnership with our client over the next decade.”
