TotalEnergies handpicks Daewoo E&C for work on LNG project in Oceania

France’s energy giant TotalEnergies has selected Seoul-based Daewoo Engineering & Construction (Daewoo E&C) as the preferred bidder for a major package on a liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Papua New Guinea, Oceania.

Daewoo E&C has secured preferred bidder status for the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) of the Papua LNG project’s central processing facility (CPF) and wellpads. The CPF and related infrastructure will process and treat natural gas produced from the Elk-Antelope gas fields before supplying it to a liquefaction plant at Caution Bay near Port Moresby.

The large-scale resource development aims to extract gas from the fields and produce about 6 million tonnes of LNG per annum (mtpa). If the arrangement is finalized, the South Korean company will take sole responsibility for the full EPCC process for the CPF and related infrastructure.

The preferred bidder selection comes years after Daewoo E&C, as part of a consortium with Saipem and PT Tripatra Engineers, was awarded the first and second phases of the Papua LNG project’s front-end engineering design (FEED) work.

This LNG project is targeting a final investment decision (FID) in the second half of 2026, while the contract with Daewoo E&C is yet to be finalized.

Papua LNG is operated by TotalEnergies in partnership with ExxonMobil, Santos and JX Nippon, with the Papua New Guinea state holding a back-in right.
