    Russian forces launched missile attacks on Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia early Tuesday, triggering fires in the Ukrainian capital and damaging buildings in the southeastern city, officials said. At least three people were injured in the attacks. Follow our liveblog for the latest developments.

    Russian attack on Zaporizhzhia kills five, wounds 20

    A Russian attack on the southeastern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia killed five people and wounded 20, the regional governor said early on Tuesday.

    “Five people killed, a further 20 wounded: sadly, the number of casualties continues to rise following the enemy attack on Zaporizhzhia,” Ivan Fedorov, the head of the regional military administration, said on Telegram.

    Nine injured in another night attack in Zaporijjia

    In Zaporijjia, in the southeast of the country, another nightly Russian attack injured at least nine people, wrote the head of the regional military administration, Ivan Fedorov, on Telegram.

    Russian forces “attacked industrial facilities and infrastructure,” he said.

    Russian missiles strike Kyiv, triggering fires in city centre

    Russian forces attacked the Ukrainian capital Kyiv with missiles early on Tuesday, triggering fires in the city centre, officials said.

    The city’s military administration said warehouses in a central district were ablaze. One person was reported injured.

    The air raid alert was in effect for about 40 minutes before officials declared the all clear.

    Mayor Vitali Klitschko said medical personnel had been dispatched to a central district.

    Reuters witnesses reported explosions in the city.

    Russian forces also deployed missiles and bombs in an attack on the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia, regional Governor Ivan Fedorov said on Telegram. He said two people were injured and several buildings had been damaged.

    Blasts heard in Kyiv after missile attack warning

    A series of blasts were heard in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, shortly after midnight local time, AFP journalists said, after authorities warned of several approaching missiles.

    The reporters said they heard several loud explosions while the city’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, wrote on social media that Kyiv was “under attack by ballistic missiles”.
