Faster well delivery with AI-powered engineering at the heart of AGR-THF pact

AGR, part of Oslo-listed energy and marine consultancy group Aqualis, has forged a new partnership with THF Engineered Solutions (THF) to pave the way for enhanced well planning, assurance and well delivery by exploring ways engineering-led artificial intelligence (AI) can assist in this quest.

This strategic partnership combines AGR’s more than 35 years of well engineering and project delivery experience with THF’s AI-enabled workflow platform, WellPhase, to help operators and engineers identify operational risks earlier, improve planning quality, reduce time spent reviewing historical well data and deliver wells more safely and efficiently. The collaboration builds on an offset well review pilot involving well specialists from Aqualis’ affiliate.

Lynden Duthie, Managing Director of AGR’s Well Management business, commented: “AGR has built its reputation on delivering safe, high-quality well engineering solutions for clients worldwide. By combining our operational expertise with THF’s AI-enabled workflow technology, we see an opportunity to unlock greater value from historical well data for clients, freeing up engineering time from manual processes to strengthen planning quality and improving consistency in well delivery across projects.”

The company explains that large volumes of historical well information can be rapidly analysed and transformed into structured engineering insights using WellPhase and its embedded Engineering Logic and Learning Intelligence System (ELLIS), providing engineers with a traceable first-pass review of key events, risks and planning considerations.

Christopher Smith, Founder of THF Engineered Solutions, highlighted: “Our goal is to help engineers spend less time gathering and structuring information and more time applying their expertise to critical decisions. Working with AGR ensures the solutions we develop are grounded in real-world well engineering challenges and operational requirements.”

The two firms, which will explore offset well reviews as the first workflow, see opportunities to apply the approach across a wider range of well engineering, assurance and operational processes, including standards compliance, well operations planning and regulatory assurance.

This partnership comes a month after AGR was hired by Shell to provide human capital for its onshore and offshore operations in Norway.
