Decommissioning work has started on the TetraSpar Demonstrator floating wind project at the Marine Energy Test Centre (METCentre) site off Karmøy, Norway, with the dynamic export cable disconnected and placed in wet storage, clearing the site for the next demonstrator project. The decommissioning campaign is being carried out by Norwegian supply chain companies, with Global Maritime managing the offshore operations and Semco Maritime responsible for onshore dismantling at Hanøytangen in collaboration with recycling specialist Norscrap West. Nordr Energi and Stiesdal have completed the disconnection and wet storage operation for the dynamic export cable developed by UNITECH Energy Group. The cable…
by Tom Kertscher / Wisconsin Watch, Wisconsin Watch August 3, 2026 It didn’t get much attention at the time, but last fall an out-of-state developer proposed an artificial intelligence data center 35 miles north of Madison in Columbia County. At $10 billion, it would have been the third-largest data center to come to Wisconsin. The Maryland-based Stonebridge real estate development company isn’t saying why it stopped exploring a site in Pacific, a town of about 2,800 people. But town chair Steven Pate told Wisconsin Watch there was no follow-up after he told Stonebridge executive Douglas Firstenberg that the proposal would…
For the European hard right and the White House, it seemed almost too good to be true: left-liberal Spain punished with a migration crisis of its own making. The histrionics came right on cue. As thousands of mainly Moroccan citizens streamed into the tiny Spanish enclave of Ceuta at the tip of north Africa, Spain’s far-right party Vox decried a migrant “invasion”, blaming Spanish prime minister Pedro Sánchez’s regularisation and leftist politics. The Trump administration did the same. A senior Israeli diplomat goaded Madrid over its “colonial” territories while Italy’s prime minister, Giorgia Meloni, called for Spain to be suspended from…
Detained Burmese leader Aung San Suu Kyi has been allowed to meet a delegation from the International Committee of the Red Cross, the first confirmed outside contact with her since a letter to her son two and a half years ago.In photographs of the meeting released by the military government Suu Kyi appeared to be healthy. She was detained shortly after the armed forces deposed her government in 2021, and sentenced her to 33 years in jail on what are widely viewed as trumped-up charges, though her sentence has been reduced and she has been moved to house arrest.Despite repeated assurances…
“Migration is a European challenge that requires a European response,” she wrote. “And in this, solidarity is fundamental.” The Commission, she said, had offered Spain financial and operational support, with Frontex, Europol and the EU asylum agency ready to assist. Migration Commissioner Magnus Brunner on Friday told Spanish Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska that the bloc was willing to “increase support for Spain” to “control the situation,” and to deploy members of Frontex, the EU agency that supports member countries in monitoring and managing the EU’s external borders, to Ceuta. Frontex currently has staff deployed in Ceuta, as well as on the Canary…
‘I’ve seen no evidence of Andy being anti-London,” the capital’s mayor, Sadiq Khan, told the Evening Standard last week, which is quaint and adorable: evidence is so 2009. This is all about feels. Some feel that the prime minister disfavours the capital because he frequently mentions that neoliberalism hasn’t delivered a fair deal for the north of England; tacitly, then, someone’s deal has been unfair in the other direction, and that would be the south, which must be London. Where else would Burnham mean – Hastings? The institution of No 10 North gestures audibly towards there being some problem with…
Untitled Goose Game is a tough act to follow. It was a silly experience that captured what I imagine it would feel like to be a sentient goose: a lot of waddling, a lot of honking, and a lot of shenanigans. That’s why Big Walk, the next game from Goose Game developer House House, feels like a radical and unexpected departure. Instead of playing as a goose terrorizing a small village, Big Walk is a co-op multiplayer game where you explore a large island and have to work together to solve puzzles. I’ve been playing Big Walk as a duo…
At the same time, organizations are deploying systems vulnerable to prompt injection, model manipulation, data leakage, and other attacks aimed directly at AI. Grimes compares prompt injection to SQL injection: a form of attack made possible by a particular underlying technology. The difference is that AI will be embedded across desktops, devices, and interconnected services, and an attack against one model may reach an organization through an AI supply chain security teams have not fully mapped. “There are attacks from AI against you, whether or not you’re using AI,” Grimes says. “And then there are attacks to the AI that…
Hackers continue to drain Coldcard Bitcoin wallets, with the total amount stolen now estimated to be standing at over $114 million. A fourth wave of attacks likely started on Sunday evening, according to Galaxy Research’s Alex Thorn. Posting at around 7:50pm in New York, he revealed then that 388.9 Bitcoins worth over $29 million had been moved in new transactions that were highly likely to be part of the theft. Hackers started by taking over $35 million in Bitcoin from wallets on Thursday. Coinkite, which makes Coldcard, said that a firmware bug in Coldcard Mk3 devices — starting with version…
Arginine is an amino acid that supports many essential functions throughout the body. It helps cells build proteins that carry out a wide range of biological processes. The body produces arginine naturally, and people also obtain it from many protein-rich foods. Abnormally low arginine levels have been linked to several diseases, including colon cancer. Sohail Tavazoie, who leads Rockefeller University’s Elizabeth and Vincent Meyer Laboratory of Systems Cancer Biology, has spent years studying this connection. In 2023, his team reported that depriving colon cancer cells of arginine caused them to accumulate more mutations. Their latest research shows that arginine deficiency…
