Italy’s energy giant Eni has continued its contract awards spree for the third phase of its oil & gas development project off the coast of Côte d’Ivoire, with Saipem having been selected for the delivery of rigid pipelines and associated subsea structures.

Baleine Phase 3 will increase total field production from 60,000 to 150,000 barrels per day and gas output from 80 to 200 million cubic feet per day, making the Baleine project one of the largest offshore energy developments in West Africa. The final investment decision (FID) for the third phase was made in May.

Saipem’s scope of work includes the engineering, fabrication, transportation and installation of approximately 50 kilometers of rigid pipelines and associated subsea structures. The activities also include the transportation and installation of flexible risers, flexible jumpers, subsea production systems (SPS) and a three-kilometer-long flexible gas export flowline, as well as 22 kilometers of subsea umbilical.

The project is expected to last approximately three years and will see the deployment of construction vessels FDS and Shen Da.

Located at water depths up to 1,300 meters, Baleine Phase 3 entails the development of a new floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) unit, to be delivered by Altera Infrastructure. TechnipFMC will design and manufacture flexible flowlines and risers and OneSubsea will deliver complete subsea production systems for 13 wells.

Saipem has also been awarded a contract by Eni for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of a new deoxygenation unit at Enilive’s biorefinery in Venice, Italy. The two new contracts have a total value of approximately €800 million.
