French provider of tubular solutions Vallourec has won a contract with Subsea7 to supply carbon steel seamless line pipe and thermal insulation coating for Petrobras’ Sepia 2 project in the pre-salt Santos Basin offshore Brazil.
The award, described as major, will see Vallourec supply approximately 130 kilometers of rigid risers and flowlines, representing more than 15,000 tons of sour service carbon steel line pipe.
The pipes will be produced at the company’s Jeceaba mill in Minas Gerais, Brazil, with the related thermal insulation coating applied at the Vallourec Coating Solutions plant in Serra, Espírito Santo.

Sepia 2 is located in ultra-deep waters of the Santos Basin, a pre-salt area approximately 280 kilometers from the Brazilian coast. It comprises 15 wells, as well as an export pipeline connected to a new floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel, to be installed in a water depth of approximately 2,170 meters.
Shortly after this announcement, Vallourec reported it was selected by EnEarth, a subsidiary of Energean, to deliver a comprehensive package of premium tubular solutions, including seamless carbon steel and corrosion-resistant alloy (CRA) casing pipes equipped with VAM premium connections for the first phase of the Prinos CO2 carbon storage project offshore Greece, covering approximately 3,000 tons of casing pipes and accessories. The scope also includes CLEANWELL, Vallourec’s dope-free solution.
Recognized by the European Union as a Project of Common Interest and supported by European and Greek funding programs, Prinos aims to convert a depleted oil reservoir into a permanent CO2 storage site, with a targeted injection capacity of up to 2.8 million tons per year and a total – proved plus probable – storage capacity of 51.5 million tons.
