NKT inaugurates expanded power cable factory in Denmark

Danish power cable manufacturer and installation firm NKT has inaugurated its expanded medium-voltage (MV) power cable factory in Asnaes, Denmark, where production has been ongoing since 1965.

The expansion works began in September 2024 and included a new production hall, new production and test facilities and enhancements to the overall production flow. Furthermore, over 100 new employees have joined Asnaes as a result, bringing the site to approximately 300 employees.

“The medium-voltage power cables we produce here in Asnaes may not be something most people think about in their everyday lives. But they are an important part of the infrastructure that keeps homes, businesses and communities connected across Europe,” said Factory Director René Olsen.

“Our investment in the expansion marks a new chapter of growth for Asnaes. We have not only invested in buildings and machinery; we have also welcomed many new colleagues, increased our capacity, and created new opportunities. Most importantly, we have a strong team to take Asnaes forward.”

The inauguration took place on September 6 and was marked by cutting a power cable instead of the traditional ribbon, NKT reported.

“It is an impressive expansion and a very visible demonstration that NKT believes in the future. Not only in the company’s own future, but also in Asnaes and Odsherred as a location for manufacturing. The green transition requires more than wind turbines and solar panels. It also requires power cables that can safely transport electricity to where it is needed. What is produced here in Asnæs is therefore helping to drive change – both in Denmark and across Europe,” said Mayor of Odsherred Municipality Hanne Pigonska.
