Former NSA Director Paul Nakasone Launches National Security Advisory Firm

Retired U.S. Army General Paul M. Nakasone, former director of the National Security Agency and commander of U.S. Cyber Command, has launched a boutique national security advisory firm.

The newly-formed Nakasone Group will counsel government leaders, corporations, prominent families, and other private clients confronting cybersecurity, geopolitical, and personal security risks.

“After more than three decades in uniform — including leading U.S. Cyber Command and the National Security Agency — I’ve seen how quickly the threats facing individuals, families, and organizations are evolving,” Nakasone said when announcing the firm on LinkedIn. “We built this firm to bring the caliber of security counsel once reserved for the highest levels of government to those navigating today’s most complex challenges — quietly, discreetly, and to the highest standard,” he added.

Paul M. Nakasone – Former Commander of U.S. Cyber Command and 18th Director of the National Security Agency.

Nakasone serves as founder and chairman of the firm, while former Defense Digital Service director Brett Goldstein is its chief executive.

The company’s services include private cyber defense, family digital security, protection against fraud and impersonation, international travel security, geopolitical and threat intelligence, and tailored briefings for executives.

Its cyber defense practice will advise clients on protecting home networks, personal devices, digital accounts, connected systems, and online privacy. The firm is positioning these services for influential and high-profile individuals who may face sophisticated threats but lack the security resources typically available within government agencies or large corporations.

The Nakasone Group will also help clients protect devices and communications during international travel, prepare for surveillance and other risks in high-threat regions, and assess geopolitical, economic, and security developments affecting their organizations, investments, and families.

Nakasone served simultaneously as the 18th director of the NSA and commander of US Cyber Command from 2018 until his retirement in February 2024. Before assuming those roles, he led US Army Cyber Command and held senior intelligence and command positions in the United States and overseas.

During his tenure, Nakasone oversaw major changes in how the United States conducts cyber operations, including the expansion of US Cyber Command and a more persistent approach to identifying and disrupting foreign cyber threats.

The firm’s advisory team brings together former senior officials from the military, intelligence, law enforcement, government technology, and private sectors. Its members include former Drug Enforcement Administration chief Anne Milgram; retired Air Force Lieutenant General Charles “Tuna” Moore, a former deputy commander of US Cyber Command; and retired Marine Corps Lieutenant General Matthew Glavy, a former commander of Marine Corps Forces Cyberspace Command.
